Did you order your car?

Was wondering this morning on the way to work how many people ordered their car. Figured since I am bored this morning why not find out.

I take issue with the word phrase "had to". I have never "had to" buy or order any car, but I did chose to order my 330Ci. 3-series were available at local dealers, but I wanted to configure mine precisely with exact options. Maybe I could have found one exactly fitting my specifications at a local dealer, but ordering was a sure thing.

I was thinking the exact same thing about the "had to" phrasing. The dealership didn't "force me to order ours, but we did because we wanted a car that was built just for us (with the exact options, colors, etc.) I am sure we could have found a car off the lot that was equipped in such a way we would have been happy with it, but we weren't in a hurry for the car, and ordering it best suited our wants.

"Take issue"?!?!:lmao: :lmao: . . . give Trancelvr a break :tsk: . . . I assume its b/c its still early. ;)
Thanks for the support Ackster! Man you use one wrong word and it starts to get like the org around here. :lmao: :lmao:

EDIT: johnlew, I suppose that means you took it off the lot. I completely forgot about people who bought 'pre-enjoyed' cars. Maybe a moderator could add that to the poll?
TranceLvr,
I don't know if it is so much HAD to order the car as WANTED to order the car. Stats show most US buyers order their BMWs VS buy off the lot.
Well, I HAD to order and I'm not ashamed to say it!!!!!
I did ED... kind of hard to pick one up off the lot and still do ED...

Actually, so did I. No one in western NY had the car I wanted.

I was going to "order" my car, but when I contacted a 3rd dealer and gave them my requirements (options) they had one on order (dealer allotment), the best part was that the flat internet order rate charge above invoice was anulled and I was able to negotiate the price of the car as though it was one sitting on the lot (after all, it *would* have been sitting on the lot had they not attached someones name to it).

Well, if ya look at it that way I had to order mine (new one) too.
I had to order as well. The only way to get an xi was to place an order then wait and wait and wait some more.
Trying to find your car with exactly what you want is pretty damn difficult. I ordered my car as well, probably would have never found it on the lot anywhere:eek: . It's a long wait, but it makes the car that much more special:thumb:
Yep, I had to order. I figure that if you are going to spend 40K on a car that you plan to keep for 8-10 years, you better get exactly what you want. The 6 week wait will seem like nothing a year from now.

Did you order from Leith? I never liked those guys:mad: . Performance is not too great either:tsk: . Have you already negotiated your price? I ordered mine from Crown In Greensboro, they have no 'bias' towards their customers at least:dunno:

HAD to order both of mine as well. I spoke with a few dealerships about locating a car for me with Topaz Blue and Navigation, and as soon as the word Navigation came up they ALL said it had to be ordered.

So I ended up ordering it from CarOrder.com. :)

Yep, I used Leith. Things were easy and went well. He offered a price "off MSRP" right off the bat. A co-worker has ordered a total of 4 cars from Leith and has had good experiences. I wanted to stay local for service reasons and had heard some negatives about Performance's service department.

What kind of "bias" do you mean?

Not only did I have to order mine, I had to special order it for the upholstry and options. Even if I went with standard options and upholstry, who's gonna have a wagon with MT and SP on the lot? :dunno:

That's what I've heard from a few people. If you know Leith, you get good service. However, when I had my previous car (93 GS), and went to go look at E46s, they were dastards, and treated me with disrepect because of my age, and criticized my car. They were even reluctant to let me test drive one:flipoff: . When I went to Crown, they were courteous and treated me and everyone else like a customer (not based on age, demographics, etc). Got the best deal in history:bigpimp:
