Does the Discover card work okay in Europe or do most places not accept it?

I don't know that I've ever run into Discover in Europe. Visa / Mastercard / American Express are universal pretty much everywhere but Discover is generally a US only thing from what I've seen.

Called Discover last week. They are mostly US......pointless taking it to Europe.

AmEx is not nearly as usable as VISA/MC. Only bigger places such as medium to large hotels, rental car and international airlines will reliably accept it. There are some smaller establishements that do as well but in general for every 4 or 5 places I've seen that advertise acceptance of Visa/MC, I'll see 1 that advertises AmEx.
