Hi,

How can I check if my car has alarm or not? Maybe look for specific part at some location? I bought the car used. I asked previous owner and he said he don't know if there's alarm installed. I was about to buy the OEM alarm but I notice that on the window there's a sticker saying "anti-theft" something.... and makes me wonder if the alarm is there and I just need to activate it.

Any help would be much appreciate it.

Thank you.

Does your clown nose blink?

Wiring was pre-installed, alarms were not; you almost certainly don't have one.

Just pop off the motion detector cover in the passenger cabin. It's the nifty square box that sits in the middle of the cabin ceiling. If there is hardware under it, you have the alarm. I can almost gaurentee you that it isn't, but if you want it for $400 you can buy it from sponsors here and install it easy.

Or you can lock your car with the remote and then unlock the drivers door w/ a key and see what happens. Thats how I found out my car has an alarm... I didn't think any US Spec e46's had it installed....

$400???

Tischer BMW sells the kit SHIPPED for $235 or so. Then activation SHOULD be cheap.. so I'd say $300-$320 max for everything.

I think he was making fun of the OP's grammar.

But yes I agree - keep this on topic.

Seriously - try my method, it's noisy but it works.

Or just push and hold down the panic button on the key fob. It it whelps, you have an alarm.

It's not rocket science.

Not necessarily. The default setting in car/key memory is "Arm/Disarm by means of locks and remote control"

As has been mentioned just either check with panic, or check for the hardware modules.

OK, I'm at the office, nowhere near the manual, and too lazy to look up.
Where exactly is the panic button on our keys?

Trunk unlock button...

Lock your doors with the remote.

Then hold the trunk open button down for several seconds. You'll know soon enough if you have an alarm.

Lock the car with the window down, then stick your arm in and wave hello!:hi:

SO I have a question, when I pulled the cover off of where the motion sensor is suposed to be on my car, there isn't really anything up there. However my car chirps when I lock it, the clown nose blinks, and if locked and I open the door with out using the fob it will set of an "alarm sound." Does this mean I have an alarm even though there is no presence of a motion sensor. '99 year

edit: also the panic button works.

is there another location they could have put the motion sensor, or could they have not installed it and the system still function?

Sounds like you have an alarm without the motion sensor (which is odd, since the alarm kit comes with it, but it is possible to disable it like you've got). There is no other place for it.
