Door handle melting, how to fix/replace?

Any help is appreciated, my driver's side door handle is melting, at first I thought there was some "tar/goo" on there, but no it's actually melting as I bought some goo-b-gone and it kept scrapping away.

I really don't care about replacing it unless I can replace just the interior plastic part, but I would like to stop touching the tar as it messed up my oyster interior, spots will go everywhere.

Is there some type of spray that would "seal" it? I can tape up the surroundings and spray paint it or something?

I just installed the plastic inserts for the two front doors that I bought from eBay for $34.69 and installed them both in less than two minutes. They look great even though they are black instead of the tan originals. This is THE FIX!

They come from China and take about two weeks to arrive.

I was not going to try to fix the door pulls, but my wife started complaining about the "sticky stuff" she was getting on her fingers each time she closed the door.

They snap in right over the existing opening. No glue. I am a super fussy car guy and I can honestly say that this is the solution. I did clean up the edge with the sticky mess on it with lighter fluid. When you press the plastic piece in place it has a section on the bottom that snaps over the bottom edge to keep it in place.

Now I laugh at what some others have tried to do. No kidding, it took me less than two minutes to fix both front doors!

hey,

The abs plastic is a pretty good solution. The fit is perfectly on the top of the old one, no glue is required and feels great on the fingers. too less than 1 min to install.

I paid ÂŁ15 for the pair on wish.

The solution is posted a couple posts above. We actually got pretty lucky that this material was only used for the door pull handle. I believe the Maserati Quatroporte from the same era had similar material around the entertainment screen and other dashboard components. It looked terrible there.

Most of the eBay listings specify both F01 and F02 without calling out anything specific for SWB or LWB, so I think the door pulls are identical.

If you compare the door panels, the center part appears identical because the extra width is spread out among three places: forward of the door handle, forward of the wood trim, and behind the wood trim.

I can confirm from actually ordering them, that they are indeed different sizes. The Rear Doors are definitely longer. Unfortunately, so are the inserts.
I don't think the SWB was even sold in China, so the sellers might be completely unaware that they are different...

How much larger is the LWB door pull? Is there any possibility of modifying it to fit?

Good question. After examining it, not really. The actual mold of the part can't be cut or trimmed or it simply would not be usable.
I did not know about the LWB only being sold in China. That certainly makes sense now.
