That really sucks. After my 2009 failed I was kind of hoping for you later model guys that they had this worked out of the system by the time the 2013s got here. Apparently not.

Please do keep us posted on what they find. I'm curious whether this is the same old injectors, carbon, or hoses rotting away - or whether there is something new to look forward to for 2013.

Both banks of injectors were replaced a few k miles ago, right after both high pressure fuel pumps. Im guessing they didnt seat the injectors correctly. Would be kinda crazy if this set of injectors already failed too. Will update next week

I like the "drivetrain malfunction club" we can move all the discussions to this thread, The dealer has had my car since fri night, had 35 faults in the memory, so something cascaded in the S/W, They have been driving it off and on all day, and it is performing fine. Keeping it for a while to see if it will replicate. It was cold the morning it happened to me, This may just be a S/W gremlin.

Does anyone warm their car up before they drive on cold days??

Most of my issues have either been at a cold start, or stopped at red lights during the night time.

Also - I recall reading in my 11 manual (not sure if this changed for the 13 manual) that it advised to just start and drive off - and explicitly mentioned not to bother warming the car up. Thought this was an odd statement to see in a car manual so it stuck out in my mind.

computers take a finite amount of time to boot up and synch up, with 63 computers on board, there could be many permutations of how it boots and synchs up, perhaps moving off and thereby feeding varying inputs to the buss, occasionally screws up the software.

Adam, sorry to hear about your problem. It shouldn't happen on a flagship 100K+ BMW. It sucks. How many miles do you have?

I usually start driving within 30 seconds. I also read that warming up is unnecessary and maybe even harmful. I suspect carbon deposits. Waiting and idling is also bad for the engine and environment.

My SA said warming up wasn't necessary unless the trip was so short that the car wouldn't reach Normal operating temp. That's a problem for us, as my wife's daily commute is about four blocks. (She usually walks in nice weather). He also stated here was no need to cool the car down after driving.

This does make a lot of sense. Perhaps we should let the computers "warm" up in accessory mode.

Excellent group and yes, I'm in the club. I've had this issue when I had my '06 750LI upon startup and then backing up and I've experienced it twice in my 2012 750LI M Sport.

As far as the M is concerned, it happened when it was cold outside when I started the car and I just turned it off and re-started it and it went away at that time. The 2nd time, my engine light stayed on for a day or so and then all of a sudden went away when I took my wife to Walmart (go figure -LOL).

I always let my car warm up and idle down. I just can't see driving right off. Especially here in Jersey during the winter time. Maybe I'm stuck in the old days of the "Warm-Up."

One evening here in LA it was in the low 60's and my vehicle actually stalled out when driving from a cold start. I'm assuming avoiding letting the car warm up is fine for an N63 engine that is in good working condition, but for a "sick" engine like mine that has already had issues with the fuel delivery - it just makes it too difficult for the engine to get the fuel to the cylinders and causes mis-fires. Maybe the fuel viscosity is just slightly lower when it's below 70 degrees or so, and combined with a malfunctioning fuel delivery system - be it the injectors or the fuel pumps - it's enough to keep delivery effectively under the threshold needed for proper functioning.

Adam G13 - Below 60 is cold !!! really !!! you have been living in CA waaaay too long!

Are carbon deposits real, These are direct injection engines. where does the carbon come from?

my car had dozens of faults, they cleared them and then drove the car for 3 days and couldn't get it to generate any faults. got the car back tonight, will see what happens over the weekend.

Well I guess I get to join the club....1 failed fuel injector and 5 more misfiring....all at 57k miles. Original warranty is gone, and my 3rd party exclusionary policy wont cover it as the injectors are simply clogged due to carbon build up. Issue first became apparent after the car sat out on a cold night. When started in the morning it shuttered to the point I thought it would die.

My local (independent) repair shop quoted approx 3k to replace all 8 injectors. He also said BMW has changed the injector design 6 times on the F01/F02....and constantly has cars come in with the issue. After seeing so many others with these issues, I just find it hard to believe that BMW has not recalled these injectors.

As much as I love this car, it will be my first and last bmw

What reason do they have for excluding the replacement of clogged injectors? Hadn't heard of that before. It's not like it was driver negligence that caused it.

Just dropped mine off. Dealer said they may replace all of the injectors again as there's yet another serial number out, like you said. Dealer also said that the previous dealer should have changed the plugs out when they changed the injectors the last time, but since they didn't they'll probably do that as well. Was advised that they're having lots of problems with the V8 engines.

The warranty I purchased specifically excludes failure due to carbon buildup...which means its probably worthless for an v8 BMW.

When I was looking for cars and my previous SA ran VIN Numbers, he advised that I get the 740 over the 750. He said he loves the 750, but they see a lot of issues with the 750 and the V8. While it's nothing definite, I took his advice and got a CPO 740. I guess it's a crap shoot, because some people may have the 750 and never have any issues with it.
