why doesn't BMW make the short shift kit at least an option or even as standard equipment. Supposedly, have a short shift kit requires more muscular effort in shifting, but I would say it's miniscule. it was nice to have, shifting was almost like click, click, click--just shift and go.

yes, it was an E46. also drove for about twenty minutes an E46 M3. the M3 comes with a short shift.

what is the difference

when you drove with the short shifter, what is the difference from the stock shifter?

shifting distance. going through the gears the travel distance is shorten. supposedly, but having a short shift kit it takes more effort to shift, but i thought it was tiny.

I wouldn't necessarily call the feel 'better.' Its definitely different, though. I'd call the stock setup 'creamy' versus the SSK that I'd characterize as 'direct.'

Are you sure about that? It didn't feel that short the last time I drove my friend's M3...

I thought the new clubsport package on the 330i was supposed to include a SSK, but I asked my dealership about it a couple weeks ago and they had no clue what I was talking about.
