Probably the Nav

Hi DJ, my MK2 unit went bonkers and kept cutting the radio/cd out every 3 minutes or so, but unplugging the nav allowed it to work, although I didn't have any screen.
My rig has DSP though, separate amp.
I would guess, as all your functions roll through the nav, that you have a buggered nav unit.
a MK4 unit is the best way to go, less headaches.

Take note of the 3rd paragraph in the info below that explains the operation of the nav monitor along with the topology chart that shows how everything is integrated (the multiple components/systems etc) that allow the nav monitor to be the simple control device for all the connected components.

I also did try a "reboot" by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. No help. It just reset the time/date and trip computer.

Strangely, if the nav computer "is generating graphics", how come I get everything on my screen except the nav icon and use of any of the controls? Maybe it's only part of the equation as I still got screen display with the nav computer (the nav CD unit) disconnected.

There is no DSP on my car. At least I'm pretty sure not.

I have been looking up info on Mk4 upgrade, as well as a 16:9 screen upgrade. It's a lot of $ for a car that isn't worth much itself. Will see what the local wreckers have. Also considering going to the upcoming Avin Avant-3, but I'm not sure if that will bypass the nav computer or I still need a working nav computer.
