Hello, everyone!
I am a new and proud owner of 530d and i already have a problem!
My navigation unit 16:9 is working, screen turns on, i can go through diferent menus etc. but i cant play radio, cd's or tapedacks. When i press the left power button nothing happens and the red light next to that button also doesn't light up. What could the problem be and how to fix it?
The last owner said that the battery was dead, so maybe i need to find the code and write it in the code section?

Ok, one problem down and a new one apears.
The problem for the radio was the fuse inside the radio module, it was not blown but it had a bad connection, pulled it out and put it back in and the radio started working!
But now i have a problem with the sound, when i turn on the radio there is this high frequence pitch like distortion or something. it is very loud. If i put the volume up it makes that sound louder, if i turn off the sound or the radio it disapears. What could that be? I dont know if it is relevant or not, but the cd changer doesnt read discs, i have 4 discs inside and the nav unit says that every slot is empty.
Maybe it could be the amp? or the bm53 thingy?
Sorry, i dont know much about bmw and there systems
Also i have noticed that 2 of my parking sensors doesnt work, is there a diference between the round ones and the square ones?

Did you do the reset by disconnecting the battery?
Can you tune in to a station on the radio?
Take the magazin out of the cd changer, take the cd changer out of the car, take the cover off and very gently clean the laser with a q-tip moistened with alcohol. Try again.

What is your battery voltage? 12,6 V is fully charged.
Look at the cd changer, check all connections to the amplifier, if the cd changer starts working again and you have the noise there also then I guess your amplifier has a problem.

It's starting to sound like you're not in North America. If you post the last 7 digits of your VIN...we can decode it to see what it is you have.

Depending on what set-up you have...the amp could be free standing. The audio systems optioned here in the states ALL had a separate amp...and it could be the regular amp or the DSP amp...and you could also have the MID (Multi-Informational Display) which was paired with an in-dash radio/cass or radio/CD player...or you could have the onBoard Nav monitor.

In other markets BMW also offered the IRIS (Integrated Radio Information System) which came with the amp built-in to the radio. If you have the BM53 or BM54...then you will have a separate amp as shown in the topology chart back in post #6

And here's a link to the TIS (that was posted back in post #6) that lists audio system complaints in regards to radio reception and what could be a possible cause: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e39-540i-tou/radio-aerial/YFooQGx

Yeah, would be a great help if people would write what car they have under "Mein Auto" (my car) but maybe people dont understand what that means. Also, location would be a great help.
Many doesnt want to reveal their VIN number either (is the car stolen?).

Sorry, i am new to this. Yes, this is Europe and the last 7 digits are GW47374, tell me what you get out of decoding it
And today the problem re-apeared, again i cant turn on the radio, and the orange light wont go on. I think when i will have some free time i will go to the wreckers and take out a radio module from a diferent car and test it on my car

Ok, one small but big update for you guys, which i think will be the end for this discussion!
Today i messed around with the audio again and noticed, that the high pitch scream noise IS NOT coming when i have the AM mode on! tape, FM radio has that high pitch sound! So what do you think it could be? I kinda think either the the big screen unit or the BM54 unit is the cultprit!
