1998 540i with power headrests. Driver side works fine. Passenger side headrest
doesn't move when switch is pushed. You can here the motor and a "ratcheting" sound
as you hold the switch in either position. Does a quick fix exist - or are we talking shop time ?

I was able to remove the headrest with some resistance. Heard a "snap"
sound after inserting approx. 2" of metal suport rods on headrest. Suppose
this was the sound of the attachment piece reseating itself on the prong
tips. Tested the switch at that point - all's well !!!!!!! Easy fix !

Appreciate all the forum users that respond, and provide insight.

Fix worked for me too

Umm, yeah...just pressed down on the passenger-side headrest with about 20 lbs of force and she snapped positively right back into place. Thanks!
