Hi All, I am new to this site.
I have recently purchased a BMW 330i year 2001(over 100k mileage) and I am having problems with performance.
When I drive between revs of 10-20k, sometimes the engine starts to stutter and as if there is no power and then the engine warning light comes on. When the performance has droppped I notice a vibration coming from the engine and an immediate loss of power. When I stop the car and restart the engine, everything is ok. I took the car to my first BMW mechanic who plugged in his machine and there were so many fault codes: mostly relating to miss fire on cylinder 1 + 2 along with CO2 problems. I found out that the owner before me had replaced both injector units in April 2012, but I feel he sold the car to me knowing there were underlining issues. My mechanic seems to think it maybe an ECU problem.( he is not sure?) in addition, another independent BMW mechanic i took it to, thinks it maybe air pressure? I have not committed to either mechanic, as I do not want to shell out for trial an error. Any advise would be appreciated before I spend, spend, spend!
What should I do from hear?
Thanks.

ps: the car drives fantastic when driven like a sports car, the engine is smooth and there are no rattles and when idle the engine purrs - This only occasionaly whendriven in the lower gears between 10 - 20 mph around urban areas. Is it the way I'm driving the car?

fuel pump

I agree with finding a better mechanic but both of them are reputable mechanics who use the same diagnostic set which is used by many non BMW techs in the UK.
I am happy to go direct to BMW if they can gaurantee that they can diagnose the root cuase and rectify it. What I don't want to happen is for the problem to surface again after they have claimed to fix it .

The same problem happened to me on the way home from work tonight. This time I was accelerating at 45mpg and it spluttered like a sick dog. I could feel the car had lost all its power and although I could continue driving, the drive was rough with limited acceleration. The engine light immediately came on so I pulled over to restart the engine. The car drove fine for the rest of the journey.
Is there an easy way of diagnosing a faulty fuel pump?
Thank you for your help.
