Hi Everyone,

I love the OEM+ scene, have for many years! My 2005 750i i have had for 2 years and have done a full individual conversion (wood, door seal trim, etc...) and many more OEM mods!
I have commenced the retrofit of a rear sun blind as where i am located in australia it gets a bit hot!
I have run into some trouble though! Being this is a car not many modify its hard to gather information on certain items, the blind topic being one of them!
I have the wiring diagram in hand, switches and wiring in place, i have tried a number of switches even one from the E38.... but nothing!

Can anyone help me??? :bawling:

Many Thanks,
Christian

I retro fitted an older e38 sun shade in an e28 years ago. Can't really remember what I did but pretty sure the switch needs 12 volts and the sunshade motor works like an antenna. Only one wire powers it up via the switch. To lower it the switch cuts power(which I think grounds it)then it drops back down.

Hello,

I believe you need to change the IHKA climate panel (http://www.etkbmw.com/bmw/EN/search/selectCar/E65/Lim/BMW+745d/ECE/64/64_1501/), as it drives the motor for the rear blind, you will also need the switch block for the drivers door and the required coding to enable the feature in the IHKA and drivers door module at a minimum.

This is a very complicated car, all of the modules are connected via data busses and coding is required for almost every electrical retrofit.

I had an E65 for about 4 years and did a lot of retrofitting, its a beautiful car but a very complicated one at that!

Thank you very much guys for the feedback!

Just Curious Stuart, What stuff did you retrofit?

I am on the hunt for one of these IHKA units, maybe i will luck out and find one with my options so i don't have to code [I DON'T KNOW HOW...:( ]

The e38 switch i have i had wired up the same as you described JBel (i think i found that e28 post on my lookings haha)

i would love to know how to code.....if someone could point me in a direction of a post that makes sense haha ( i ca never get my Dcan cable to work!)

Many Thanks,
Christian

Hello Christian,

On my 2002 E65 I retrofitted the Bluetooth TCU, facelift MMI, genuine iPod Interface, Facelift IHKA and light Switch, light Module 2 for welcome lights, DVD changer, OEM rear seat entertainment system, hybrid digital TV module, webasto parking heater with OEM remote, that's as much as I can remember between fixing things!

You need to code unfortunately!

There is a very good tutorial here http://codinge90.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/NCS-TUTORIAL.pdf, you need what's called NCS expert and the e65 Daten files, plenty of help online if you look around, ncs expert is prt of the ediabas suite.

You don't need a dcan for the E65, is it k line compatible? The E65 is K Line only.

I'm in the middle of this retrofit, having already done the rear door sunshades and installing soft-close at the same time.

You indicate that the wiring and switch is in place, does that mean you have an updated driver's window switch that has the rear sunshade button?

This post has the info for how it wires into the switch that plugs into the IHKA (with thanks to Permituk). I will be putting in the rear deck this weekend, running the wire up from the rear to wire into the plug going into the updated IHKA (Part #64116981405).http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=856324

Indicating that you have a switch from an e38 is a bit confusing - were you thinking of mounting that in some way other than the control switch on the window switch panel?

I don't have a wiring diagram, but I think one of the keys in making sure the "High" (H) IHKA works is impacted by the door wiring that supports the (H) versions of the door controllers. This is supposition since I'm not referencing that wiring, but the door inserts I replaced in addition to updated cards had wiring with the "snorkel" harnesses to the door jams. Those plugs had more wires associated with them than the "Low" versions, which I believe help the door controllers all work in tandem. For instance, when the wiring is all complete and coded, the driver window controller sunshade button will both control the rear sunshade as well as ALL the sunshades if pressing that button longer. Also, the rear door window switches can control either side by simply flipping a switch on the panel. This leads me to further believe that the having the correct wiring looms in addition to the (H) door controllers is also in play. I could be completely wrong, I just haven't been able to find a current version of the WDS that works in a Windows 7/10 environment with an > IE 6.x version browser.

As I complete the job, I will be posting updates as well. Maybe with us both being half blind on this, our combined vision will be enough to get us there !!

I can dig the wiring diagrams out for you if you like? I had the blinds on my old E65 and yes the function is as you describe.

Each door has a control module (white box) and they all interconnect via can bus to enable the different switches to activate functions on different doors.

The F01 is much simpler, blinds are on a LIN bus (1 wire) and all required electronics are fitted inside the door switch blocks, also there is no separate large and small blind control on the rear doors.

That would be much appreciated. I really learn a lot from the write-ups you've taken the time to highly document. I plan on emulating your rear entertainment project here in the near future - my two girls keep on bugging me about getting that DVD for them !!

Hi Guys,

Sorry for no reply guys, i had a death in the family and has taken away all my time!

I have the door switch in place, it has the blind button and came from another car somewhere in europe!
I got the e38 switch as i couldnt get my door switch to work after a failed plug into the cars original IHKA (mine has not got the blind option)

im now on the hunt for an IHKA with support for the rear blind (question: does it matter if i get a unit form a LHD car even though mine is RHD?)

I had a look at that PDF document about coding and it rocks, so thank you so much stuart!
I have instaled INPA on my laptop but it wont talk to the car for coding, im so lost when it comes to that (i have tried about 5 times to get it to work, each with a new version of windows installed :/)

Salbol1 i hope we can join forces from accross the globe and sort this out as that would be awsome to have a thread for a retrofit like this!
Just to confirm, how did you obtain the information the IHKA you bought would work?
i look foward to updates very much!!!!!!!

Many Thanks Guys,
Christian

Were you able to get the shades to work? I'd like to do this same thing on my 06 750li.

If I read this thread correctly, all I need is the shades themselves and the doors switches and door modules? No additional wiring is needed?

Haven't yet, work has caused a few delays:bawling:!
I will try this weekend!

Whats needed so far is;
- Sun blind
- Door Switch with sunblind button
- Aircon control unit from a car with sun blind options (its different from standard units)
- wiring from the rear blind to the new aircon unit (refer to WDS)
- probs should program the aircon unit but dont know yet!

Should work, i hope....???? :rofl::bawling:

Is it a separate wiring harness from the rear sun blind to the ac controls? Or is the harness part of the rear sun blind already?

You just need to pull two wires from the rear of the car through to the front of the car, something you'd have to do yourself unless someone unpicked a loom for you just to get the wires.

I don't remember having to code to get this to work when I retrofitted the rear blind and side blinds.

Though that could be because the IHKA unit was already enabled for it, I was coding a lot of stuff at the time.

There is a parameter in the IHKA module called HECKROLLO, that needs to be set activ

Hi Guys,

Long time no discussion on this topic.

I have good news, i managed to make my blind work tonight, i got the new IHKA (this is my 3rd )
I connected the plugs, added the new pins as per the factory wire diagram, hit the button and up it went!

i need to code the IHKA to RHD form LHD but apart from that im all up and running.

To Conclude, you need,
Rear Blind
Parcel Shelf
3 x Screws
Wire (2 x 5M)
2 x Wire Pins
IHKA compatible with the rear blind (look for one from a car being wrecked with a blind)
Code LHD or RHD Via NCS Expert

Thank you to everyone who helped make this retrofit work, i appreciate it greatly!

Regards,
Christian
