I have a 08 X5 4.8i with just over 101k miles, and when I first start it in the morning there is a low pitched whining noise, when I put it in gear the noise quiets but is still slightly audible. It shifts fine when taking off however the noise gets louder right before it shifts to the next gear and then it goes away after the shift. I only notice it happening right before shifting from first to second, and second to third. This only happens within about 3 minutes of starting it. After that the noise is gone altogether, and I don***8217;t hear it again Until I start it after it has sat for multiple hours. Again it shifts normal and runs fine. It just has an odd whining noise.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Pop the hood to see if you can determine the location of the noise. You could have vacuum leaks. What’s the maintenance history of the car?
