E93: Possible to roll down windows via fob, and NOT open roof?

The remote on my E93 will open/close the windows/roof but I'd like to just roll the windows down and NOT have the roof start opening.

This is to 'load' our baby into the car seat. Right now I am having to get in the car, roll down the passenger side windows and then place the baby in the seat. Not easy. It is possible to open the passenger door and lower him into the (rear facing) car seat.. then can roll windows down with him out of the way but it's still a pain. Can this be coded? (I already own a coding cable). Lifting the tray up in the trunk was my first idea, but then the remote does nothing at all after unlocking the car.

This issue is quite a pain now it's snowing/ pretty cold fairly often. I am actually thinking of getting another vehicle + will probably have to sell the E93 as we only have a double garage in our house here (we recently moved to Denver and are renting).

Yes via coding

I don't know if it can be disabled completely but you can adjust the time delay required to open the roof.

You will most likely have to force the car to code the delay you want but I would code the delay for say 10 seconds, the time it takes for the windows to go down. Then if you continue holding, the top will go down but only if you keep holding it.

I don't know the actual time it takes to lower the window. So you need to find this out via trial and error. But adjust the time to a 1 or 2 seconds after the window stops, so you have time to release the button before the top is activated.

Btw there is also an option that allows you lower the windows in a coupe/vert for easy entry. When you close the doors, it automatically rolls back up. I forget how you activate it but I think it's unlock, then hold unlock for 1-2 seconds. This may only work for driver's side though.

A quick Google shows these coding options:

KOMFORTOEFFNEN_FB_O_SHD - holding open button on remote opens windows without sun roof
KOMFORTOEFFNUNG_FB - convertible top opens by holding the open button on remote..Or opens all windows & sun roof on non convertible

Maybe I need to go from the 2nd one to the 1st (assuming sun roof is same as convertible top)

Alternatively is there a used market for the SmartTop modules? I'd rather not pay almost $400 then not be able to sell when I no longer have the vehicle. Amazon does not permit us to re-sell them. Also life is a bit busy for me right now and I don't necessarily have time to play with coding. Installing the SmartTop module looks a doddle though.

The timing of mine does not allow rolling down the just the windows. Maybe yours has a bigger delay.

The sunroof is not the same as a convertible top. There is no option to just lower the windows on an E93. As a matter of fact, if the "shelf" in the trunk is not in the correct position not only will the top not open but neither will the Windows. They operate together.

There is a point in the process where the windows are down but the roof has not moved. You can hear when the clamps detach from the pin. If I stop the process before it detaches the windows are down and the roof is still locked in place. The opposite is true as well. You can put the roof up, it locks in place and the windows are still down.

Hmm.. I'll try again. The baby is almost sitting up by himself so in a couple of months I can probably plonk him in the front passenger seat while I walk around and get the windows rolled down from the driver's side.

It's only a problem when I pick him up from day care and it's snowing hard/ really windy, dropping him off is easy as the windows can be rolled down before getting out of the car + rolled up from the remote when I've lifted him out of the back.

Am close to swapping the car out for a more baby friendly vehicle anyway.. it's working but not ideal. Don't have the time to hassle with having three cars again so I'd sell this one. Hard decision. Him and our RAV4 are very compatible:thumbup:

Leaving aside holding down the unlock button, I know you can code the driver's side window to go down after a second press of the unlock button. But I don't believe there is an option for all windows.

Smart Top is overkill if the OP ONLY wants what he mentioned.

As I mentioned, you can adjust the coding times to have the car function as you want.

The values to change are in CAS.

You can code the delay time for holding the button to a shorter interval so you don't have to wait as long for the windows to start dropping....say 1/2 second opposed to 2-3 seconds. Then code the delay between lowering the controvertible top and windows so there is a gap.

KMFRT_OEFFNEN = Time Delay to hold unlock button to activate remote windows down. Default value is 19 or 2.5s. 05 is a 0.5 seconds. 10 is 1 second etc.
KMFRT_OEFF_SHD = Time delay to open sunroof. I'm assuming this also controls convertible top on E93 models. Default is 3C or 6 seconds. 4C = 7.6s, 5C = 9.2s, 6C = 10.8s etc
