On my way down to South Carolina , a rock must have hit the closed panel that covers the DEF tank, only one of the little slots is missing, I looked on realoem.com, I can not tell if the part just snaps in from the front or it has to be accessed from behind ? Has anyone else had this happen, only one tiny little diamond is missing. Luckily , no damage to the DEF tank.
I wouldn't even bother with repair on something that small and inconsequential. Road debris and lousy roads are a part of life in SC due to insufficient fuel tax revenue.
I believe that open or closed is by design depending on engine and presumably it's air flow requirements or of parts behind that panel. The single cutout on an otherwise closed panel is to facilitate the removal of the panel (insert finger and pull).
Never noticed that the cover is meant to be that way, came out the hotel into the parking lot and noticed it, since I never saw it before I just assumed it was damaged.
