Are the engines used for the current 4.8is X5 and 550i the same? Is it correct that the 4.8is engine is M62 (signle Vanos) whereas the one used for 550i is N62 (dual VANOS with Valvetronic)?

It seems that they both have 4799cc. If so, why call one 4.8 and the other 5.0?

You know I wondered about the same thing about a year and a half ago when I had just order my X5 4.4i and also test drove the 545i for the fun of it. I was told that the same exact engine was in both but the mapping for the 545 was just unreal. Silky smooth, gobs of power and it just revved like a sewing machine. Now, compare it to my X5 4.4, that thing gets off the line like a tired beast and the power is erratic compared to the silky smoothness of the power in the 545. As for the Valvetronic, I thought that Valvetronic is an option for both vehicles.
