Ok, first off, disclaimer, whatever..... I AM NOT trying to start an oil war.

Background - I've been using AMSOIL in my vehicles since 1976 and couldn't be happier with the zero oil related issues that I've had over those years.

Does anyone here use AMSOIL in their BMW ? if so which one ? if not what brand do you use ?

Ok, so I assume no AMSOIL users.

After a quick search at local auto parts / walmart there seems to be little if any 0w-30 offerings. For those that change their own oil what are you doing, buying oil off the internet and having it shipped ?

For my N55 engine 535i, I purchase 5qt jugs of Castrol Edge 0W-40 for European cars. (It no longer has the BMW LL-01 rating on the container.)

I usually purchase from Amazon, Walmart or Walmart.com.

If you still want to use a BMW approved oil (LL-01), purchase it online. Often the shipping is free if your order is large enough (FCP Euro). Last time I bought my motor oil from these guys right here in PA:

I use Castrol 0W-30 A3/B4 European formula. It's Belgian-made & still BMW LL-01 approved. I've ordered it from Advance Auto Parts, but I think it's available on Amazon as well.

I only use oil with bmw LL-01 on it. Locally the only option is Castrol 5w40. Castrol does have a 5w30 thats LL01 that I’ve been wanting to try but isn’t available anyplace local.

I'm leaning towards RidinDirty's suggestion of ordering online from fcpeuro.com

when changing your own oil is there an oil life monitor that needs to be reset ? does require a special tool hooked to the OBD2 ?

Ive just used whatever is cheapest. And never change it, just add more. 0-30, 5-30, 540..Throw a W in if you want....all those numbers really dont matter.

Over 30 years Ive had ZERO 'oil related issues'.

What more proof could anyone need?

So there you go.
