Has anyone had this problem? I have been following break in. Also is it worth worrying over?

Could be any number of things.

Is the gas cap on tight? That would be the first place to start.

It could be the thermostat (coolant gauge leans to the left even after driving for a while), camshaft position sensor, etc. Get it into the dealer.
Regarding the loose gas cap, I heard an interview with a car shop owner last week. He said that almost 2/3 of the "check engine" lights that come into his shop are related to the emissions system. In particular, almost 1/3 are loose gas caps. It appears that there is a vapor recovery system attached to the gas tank (and the tank is under very slight pressure). Well, when the gas cap is loose, the vapor recovery system can't function properly (hence the "check engine" light). Long explanation for one of the likely causes. I am not a mechanic so my explanation may be slightly off. I still find it amusing. You should be able to tighten the cap, and it will go off soon thereafter.

the cap is on tight. is the emissions problem a serious one?

It can be. The best case scenario is you have slightly worse gas mileage. The worst case is your car will stall or won't start.
thanks, im pretty damn paranoid after hearing all the problems about the new m3. Would you think in the worst case scenario this would damage my engine?

I doubt it. But obviously take it to the dealer at your earliest convenience.

You're 16 (born Nov 1985) and you have a M3 on order? That is just sick.

I have a number of friends that grew up just like this. The outcome was not good for any of them in the long run. I hope you have better luck!

lmfao, i took a break from my hw to come upstairs after 15pages of math :thumbdwn: to look at the board, but whats so sickening i was getting straight f's basically by alittle incentive my dad has turned me around to i dont want antything else below a a's and b's i do it now for my self too, well im paying for the upgrades i want the premium package, BI-xeon, & back up rear control, i also paid for the deposit, plus im driving two cars right now first i had a $600 1988 corolla to give me a car until my M3 comes in, that got wrecked 2 weeks after buying it. this old lady starts out at a stop sign not even looking she was talking to her grand son in her back seat, so she broadsides me, and her grandson goes to my school and was in my class, this was a different one, and she had been in 4 accidents in one month, so now i drive a 83 camaro z28 until i get the M3, but im also working 10hrs a week for my dads business, i understand what im getting, and heres a little discussion about it, we had this discussion for a while lol
