Hello,

I have a 2007 BMW X5 4.8i. I was wondering if I can swap the engine out for a newer one like from 2011-13.

Is that possible, and what is the price. Also, is it more practical to buy a new Bmw or to do the swap.

Thanks.

It would be much more practical to buy a new BMW. The cheapest option you'd have in terms of getting a new motor would be to source one from a salvage yard, and even that would probably cost a pretty penny as well. Don't quote me on this because I'm not 100% sure but I believe the newer engines are also paired to an 8-speed transmission whereas the older engines are paired to a 6 speed. I'd say just get a newer BMW if you can rather than try and put a new engine in.

Practically speaking it cannot be done. All new electonics and modules- it would be a massive massive undertaking. This isnt an engine swap, it is creating a new drivetrain in a 10 year old car.

Buy a new (used) car-

Prolly lower than the cost of the 'new' engine.

"Yeah, you F'd up the value of that new 2013 engine by wrapping a 2007 body around it"
