the bottom line is that the car is not wired. one wire is missing from the plug and I assume that the wire is not only missing from the trunk lid harnes but all the way to the front of the vehicle.

well... it might be made to work if someone was willing to run a wire from the fog lamp switch to the trunk lid (split into a "Y" at the trunk lid to power both lights). the ground lead is already there. this is for the sedan. it's possible that the coupes ARE wired as there wasn't a separate part number for the light carrier.

You've got to run the wires

The E39 guys have been doing this for over a year, but you've got to run the wires. Apparently it's not that difficult.
