This has been happening to me since before ive gotten the car.. it would normally stay at -40F then just up to 122 or 114F i forgoet but then it would for a little but and it woiuld only be a couple degrees off like last weekend it was 54 outside and it was reading 56 for like 15 minutes than it beeps and goes to -40 than jumps to 114 and anywhere in between.... anyone else have this problem ??

Your ambient temp sensor is probably bad, missing, or wires are touching. Very common. Look under your front drivers side bumper just in front of the tire. You should either see the sensor, or wires hanging.....

The same thing happened to me. OEMBIMMER sell the sensor for $39. Not sure if thats the lowest price or not.

Yep welcome to the world of external temp sensor replacement. Just have a zip tie on hand in case the mounting broke.

call me crazy but i just looked under the front bumper right infront of my drivers side and i dont see any wire except for the one running to my fog lights and corner lights.. oh and i got my corners.... will post pics when i get her a fresh wash

You probably tore off the plastic, happens all the time. Do you see any wiring harness plugs with nothing in them?

when you look under the front bumper all i see is two wires one going to the fog lights and the other to the corner light and no other wires at all.. im gonna take some pics either tonight or tommorrow

There should be three sets of wires bundled together. The corner lights are a lot farther away and are not part of the bundle. The wires are for the horn, sensor and fog light

You remove the plastic under the left front wheel arch and the sensor is there, like a long pen. I replaced mine last year and it still reads -40oC - am guessing there is some reset to be done on it. or something. Bought the part from my BMW dealer, so dunno.
