I am trying to monitor the can bus messages on my f series 2015 435xi. I have purchased the K+D Can Bus USB cord (the green one, not the fake white one). Is there any software application which I can use to monitor the messages that are being sent across the bus or does no such software exist yet for the f series? I'm a software engineer and don't mind writing code myself if someone might be able to answer some basic questions I have. Thanks.

On a BN2020 car at the OBD port you only have D-Can and Ethernet. Most of the actual CAN communication between modules happens on PT-CAN, K-CAN2, K-CAN3, etc. Ethernet connects to a select few body modules that move more data(headunit, telematics, etc.) Unless you are certain the messages you are looking for are sent to the OBD port, you need to figure out what your area of interest is, check a wiring diagram for your car to see which CAN the target modules are on, and tap that particular CAN.
