Hi,
I have some faults in memory on my GT 530d 2010 and I am not sure which parts exactly must check or exchange. Maybe you know more about it...

242F00 Preheating control unit: preheating control unit, output stage, cylinder 5, faulty
243400 Glow plug, cylinder 6, activation: open circuit
242000 Glow plug, cylinder 1, activation: open circuit
243600 Glow plug, cylinder 6, activation: glow-plug resistance outside specification

288E00 Power management undervoltage (battery voltage < 9V)
D34420 DSC: FlexRay, communication fault (battery voltage < 9V)

D91410 Message (drive train 2 data, 230.0.2) incorrect, reciever CAS, transmitter DME/DDE

Thank you for any suggestion

daders thank you for a tip...
It should be checked in car repair if it has still good capacity, is it right? Or can I do it myself? If battery would be in bad condition, must I buy any special battery or just same values? Must new battery be learned or just simply exchanged?

+1 on the diagnosis
I would consider a battery tender / charger before spending on a new battery
I purchased a ctek charger which reconditions the battery whilst still in vehicle so no coding required etc
Initially I got increased battery discharge warnings, feared the worst but got a ctek mx7.0 charger and left it on for two days

1 year on and no further faults, will be putting it on charge soon as the temps are set to plummet.

The gt is heavily laden with electric and very dependent on a battery of good state of charge

The ctek comes with smart charge leads which are bolted on to battery (no crocidile clips) so now I left the floor and quick connect the tender

You can check it yourself with a voltmeter, depending how low it is you may have the ability to extend its life with a battery tender but if it is indeed below 9V as per your errors I would buy a new one. As long as you match the specifications there is nothing special about the battery a BMW dealer will put in your car. There are various threads about battery replacement and the need to "tell the car" because of the intelligent battery system (IBS). However I am in the camp of the guy who started this thread (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=826827) and my personal theory is BMW engineers identified that keeping the alternator from running when doing the testing on a new vehicle for the ever restricting govt demands was one way to help their efficiency numbers and now we have added complexity that really doesn't do much for the end user.

If you do replace your battery yourself, be gentle as the negative cable (if I recall correctly) has the sensor on it for the IBS and can get damaged if you're not careful.

Addendum: ok, so I started reading the power management system documentation and my viewpoint expressed above is way too simplistic as there are so many electrical draws that we consumers have demanded with our need for technogizmos. You can find the documentation in the thread referenced above (post by bimmer32 on page 3)

The car adjusts the charging rate based on the age, size, and type of battery installed, so if you do not tell it what is there, and when it was replaced, it is likely the life will be diminished. Will the car work with a simple swap - yes. Will it be optimum - no.

FWIW, BMW did install the clutch on the alternator to help improve fuel economy. Seems that changing when it would engage is easy with software, but, that would get them in big trouble with the feds, as it then would not match the fuel efficiency from the original certification. New model years are likely to have a different algorithm, but it's not likely to be retrofitted for those compliance issues.

A diesel is much harder on the battery than the gasoline versions, especially when it starts to get cold out.

HI, I am going next Monday to "winter check" to BMW dealer, so I will let them check battery and ask about registration of eventually new needed or not and I will aks them about those errors in fault memory. I also have some troubles with one park distance sensor on front right, that one they changed me few months ago after I hit the deer - now sometimes when I engage reverse gear, front sensor screams even there is absolutely nothing before front of car. Second problem is with hydro bearing 31126775145 which they did not change after deer crash and now I see it is leaking oil hardly... it will be guarantee fight :/

Hi, I was by BMW dealer for winter check...it tooks 8hours.... they checked the car and told me.. everything is ok, battery is ok and fully charged. Only glow plugs need replacement they say.
I also ask them how is it about new battery registration and they fairly told me that it is recommended and they are doing it but they really do not know why and for what. Funny.
Funny also that they do not find oily like leaks on front of car and told me it could possibly be of windshield washer..hahah..they say car is ok, but I saw that hydrobearing leaking oily fillment. So I am on to change it instead of BMW dealer is sure there is no problem. Hope it could be change only bearing separately and not the whole arm.

So I am on to change my glow plugs, I think better to change them all and not only those 2 or 3 in fault memory. Is there any TIS service document for changing glow plugs to read out, please?
And how about 242F00 Preheating control unit: preheating control unit, output stage, cylinder 5, faulty, is there just one preheating unit for every glow plugs or is one unit per each plug? Is it necessary to change also preheating unit or is there possibility that this fault is because of bad glow plugs and after I change glow plugs these preheating unit fault leaves?

All work with faults in memory am I doing in Rheingold ISTA application. Yes with ENET cable. There you could read your vehicle state, faults in memory, investigate causes and clear faults and check if they disappear or come back.... There is many post about Rheingold here...also the thread
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9663024#post9663024 could help you. Hope you will find what you need and your GT is healthy....

I was told my alternator was fine twice by my local dealer. They tested it. If you are having multiple error messages from drivetrain malfunction to glow plug errors then it is most likely a power issue. I would bet on the alternator. If Jad is telling you about the heavier load cycle a Diesel engine puts on a battery you can take that info to the bank.
