Hi,

I have just bought my F11 520dat and I am very pleased with the car. However like everything else in this world, eventually it will start to have problems. Then I would need a diagnostic tool in order to find what the potential problem is. Can you guys guide me to which tool is the best for this car? Where can I buy it and what do I need of cables? Thanks

To begin with I am just interested in diagnostic. I was thinking of spending maybe 100$, but if I can manage with less that would be great.

Thanks! Is this enough for all of my needs? I have heard about Rheingold. What are the pros and cons between Rheingold and such a device which you linked to ?

The device I linked will read the usual OBD codes. Rheingold is a top level software. It can do alot more but also has a learning curve. I do alot of my own DIY repairs. I found that Carly for BMW and Bimmercode fits my needs in terms of easy coding/fault reading. Creator is good if you just want something basic. What you buy will depend on how deep you feel you need to go with the diagnostics.

I was looking at carly. That seems to fit my needs. I think I am going to order a adapter. Just wondering, how easy or difficult is it to mess something really bad up using such devices. I was thinking like crashing the car-brain and having to pay $$$$ to fix it ? Or is it pretty much idiot-safe to use?

Carly will run a module backup prior to coding. If a fault does occur you can revert to the backup. Its pretty hard to mess something up.
