Besides myself, was anyone else holding out for their ED orders? I had ordered my '20 M340i last November for April delivery to coincide w/ the kid's April school vacation. Used miles for Delta One suites to get there, planned to take the wife to Paris, then also booked the upper deck on a Lufthansa 747 (bucket list item). We were even able to arrange a tour of the M studio. Then Covid hit. Factory shut down literally mid-production. Car was completed shortly after the factories reopened and my delivery date was moved to July. Then August. Then September. Even though ED was supposed to end 9/30, they gave me a new date 10/20.

Alas, today I received an email from the ED dept at BMWNA stating that Germany's borders are expected to remain closed thru the end of the year but I can wait it out until 11/2. If I agree now to just have it shipped to my dealer, they'll throw in an additional incentive/voucher. After 11/2, the incentive expires and all cars automatically shipped.

Soo... I'm wondering if it is possible to still do Performance Center Delivery, even though it is an ED car, since it was never delivered, can port installed accessories be added? Is it now a stateside delivery and qualify for the current incentives, including this month's (or November's) MF w/o the ED adder? Being a lease, I'm not concerned w/ the model year but am glad I was able to get the Mocha interior while it was available.

I had to edit my punctuation to properly phrase the question. I 've done 2 PCD's before, the 2nd one w/ PIA's. Have to call my CA to see if the M-Performance Exhaust can be port installed on a vehicle that was previously supposed to be for ED.

It was a valiant effort to try to get European Delivery even after 9/30/2020. Countries neighboring Germany are showing a sustained spike, France, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands. The EU won't open up to Americans by 11/2/2020.

Try to get an email allowing you a brief visit to the lounge and delivery floor in the future. Those areas are closed except to those picking up their new cars at the Welt. Then you can appear there in a future year with that email commitment in hand and they might not escort you out but allow you a brief visit to the special areas. Without the promise on paper, you might receive a German-like answer, "sorry, it is forbidden, only for customers picking up cars".

Rent a BMW M5 in Germany if the vacation is in German. Flog it.

Shon528 have you signed your paper work yet? If you stay with ED pricing, then you will not qualify for incentives. In the past ED vehicles haven't been allowed for PIA, your best option may be to revert to US pricing at wholesale cost, then qualify for the incentives and add PIA. As you never touched the car, it is still a "virgin" in the mind of US CBP.

With COVID ruining the last sunset ED's, I foresee once the dust settles in 4-5 years, BMW NA bringing the program back. Germany and Europe will need US tourists for recovery.

Part of Bavaria has just gone into lockdown. Berchtesgadener Land, a part of Bavaria that borders Salzburg, is locked down for 2 weeks. See Coronavirus: German Alpine region goes into lockdown

For now, it is the only part of Germany in lockdown. However, I believe it is impossible that Germany will open up before November 2.

I am sorry to report that Germany is closing all hotels in November 2 for at least 4 weeks, except for essential travel. Hotels for tourist visits, even by Germans, are prohibited.

It is time to surrender and sign the surrender documents with BMW. They will have to ship your car, not European Delivery at the Welt. I am sorry to hear this. I was hoping for a last hurrah of the final European Delivery made despite a September 30 close date.

Could happen who knows..? I loved ED while we had it. I'll never forget the night when I was soaking in jaccuzzi thinking about Bimmerfest.com and Roadfly.com and wanting to innovate our forum. Nobody had an ED forum and I found myself answering ED threads in the "Ask Jon" forum frequently.

When I got out I logged into the control panel and added this forum. A few minutes later I emailed Beewang and asked him to be the moderator. And now, we have a final thread commemorating the nail in the proverbial coffin. The circle of life.

You are correct. As of 10/19, I agreed to have the car shipped. I was given the choice to stick w/ ED pricing and also receive an additional $500 off from BMWNA. I declined and chose to go w/ US pricing which then removed the adder on the MF and allowed this month's incentives. Bottom line ended up being a difference of a hair under $2,500. I am now working on pricing for which PIA I want to add.

If BMWNA does bring back ED at some point in the future, I can see myself perhaps ordering an i4 and giving this another go around.

Saw it on the news yesterday about Germany and France going into lockdown. We were hoping for a visit next summer but even that is a huge question mark. BTW, I took your advice and put a request in writing. Approval has to come directly from the Welt, still waiting to hear.
