Here is the first of a couple of projects that I wanted to get done before the big party down south.

This is a video camera mount that I made a better bracket for.
I didn't care for the stamped steel one that came with such an excelent quality gimbal.
The rollhoop was salvaged from a rolled M Rdstr, so no flames for cutting away the foam padding (what a ***** to get that stuff off).
Notice the abrasions on the top of the hoop...
Ouch!

Another shot of the video mount

Obviously, this shot was prior to fitting the hoop in the car.

Lightened Strong Strut

I just got this back from the powder coating shop today.
Thirteen equally spaced 1.0" holes.
The countersinking makes them appear larger.
I am pleased with the results, even though only 1.5 Lbs were saved from the original strut that had only six holes (2ea. 1.0", .75" & .50").

Any plans to powder coat the camera mount?
Yes...

Or something. Either anodizing or powder coating in a low gloss/satin black.

It does tend to stick out too much in raw aluminum;)

After the fact, but black Delrin would have worked. Want to get fancy you could duplicate the bar shape and it would blend right in.

Originally, I wanted to machine the clamp to fit over the foam padding, with just a few thousandths crush.
After making templates of the foam's shape, for the length required, I determined that it was way beyond my capabilities as a machinist.
Besides the strange shape of the padding, it is also tapered as it rises towards the top of the bar...
It was easier to trash a hoop from a wrecked car

Good idea about the delrin though, use black (carbon impregnated) and you solve the coating problem.
