At the time of this writing, all attempts to read/respond to any existing thread, in any forum, fail with an HTTP 500 response from showthread.php (i.e., a server-side error). If you are reading this, it is apparently still possible to post a new thread--obviously, once I submit the completed post, I will be unable to confirm that it worked.

Much of the rest of the site appears to be functioning normally. It's possible to view the list of threads in a forum, search for threads, etc., but actually reading anything is impossible. :tsk:

(Yes, posting a thread no one can presently read is pointless--unless one is trying to isolate what is broken from what is not.) ;)

The site is basically dead due to this error except in enhanced mobile view. Maybe their app works although I don***8217;t / won***8217;t have it. Oh well, OT basically died weeks ago.

Our tech department is already looking into the issue. We'll keep you informed when we have more information.

Continue to let us know when it happens, when, and what you were doing at the time.

That's an odd thing to say when you look at the facts.

Active threads
Jan, 18
Feb, 16
March, 18
Aprll, 16
May, 11
June, 12
July, 15
August, 14
September, 18
October, 16
November, 15
December, 24

Looks like December has been our most active month of the year for individual topics discussed. :dunno:

Maybe your perspective is skewed by that same thing that skews a lot of people's perspective this time of year? Or maybe it's something else.:tsk:

Wow. 24 active threads in a month. That's something to be proud of.
I believe the assertion was that OT had died in recent weeks. Facts reveal that it simply has not.

This is not an OT board. It is an automotive board. For the folks that run this place, it's a very good thing that OT conversation lags. It brings the focus of the board to the models and the brand, not stuff that isn't related. If we consider that now more than ever, this is a board run by folks in business for a profit, attracting more views to the model boards means that more eyes are looking for things that the vendors sell. They don't have any vendors who sell computers, blenders, vacuum cleaners, or feature films. The vendors paying the site owners want clicks and eyes that translate into sales of their products. Those products are discussed in the model forums, not OT.

Bimmerfest does provide a small place for folks who like the same brand to discuss things other than the brand. Plenty of other boards exist for OT content. For anything deeper, evidence very clearly shows they're happy for folks to go elsewhere to scratch that itch.

OT forums are IMHO VERY important points as below.

1> Most people are well rounded individuals, they have lot's of gift's talents needs and wants, don't know a person alive who just knows BMW's and cannot do anything else,
not possible, we all work for a living, have famillies etc.

2> Given point 1> Most people on ANY kind of a forum, build up friendships and trusts, just like in the real world, if someone gives you advise on a BMW thread, your more likely to ask them other questions

3> Not of us are islands, we all know to different degrees , about different things

4> I am MORE likely to help a person whom I trust or has helped me and also more likly to ask a question to a "group" of like minded individuals, my "peer group as it where"

5> Take any forum, ANY forum, now, take 10 people from that forum, put them in a bar, and see what they talk about, as a guy who runs such a chapter, we chat about everything from women, to booze, to food, to tech,
but what BRINGS us together is our commonalities, in this case BMW's. Your "BMW" forum is just that, a group of like minded individuals bought together for a passion and also side discussing other things,
as a car guy, I have 2 cars, should I not ask a question on here about my Dodge ?

There is a difference between OT and POL/SCI, but again, take the "Bar meet scenario" same thing, EVERY forum I have ever seen, from Porn, to gaming to cars HAS an OT section.

I can google, but I'd rather ask people here I trust about NON-BMW , NON-CAR stuff than go find a dedicated forum, UNLESS of course I'm recommended,

Think of the forum as a ONE-STOP Shop.

As for clicks/advertising, I've never ever ever in 20 some odd years ever clicked on any advertising, and have all forms of ad-blockers to prevent as much crap as I can,
so not sure where all this revenue is coming from. I am "MORE" likely to view a thread on someone's build, or somones "project" and then go buy that gear.

not sure if I have made sense, if not, then, don't worry about it

So does Bimmerfest. The point is that for all of the reasons above, the focus of Bimmerfest is not OT content. The current owners have clearly shown that OT content or how much traffic they see within is not a concern for them or the sponsoring vendors.

I wouldn't be concerned with OT going away. But given the current leadership priority, I would not be at all concerned about OT traffic as in indicator of Bimmerfest performance. Like anything else in business, if it's not the core business, it's not the highest priority.

Seems to still be broken sometimes. In the app the chat almost never loads, I decided to pay and support the forum in hopes of it helping or something I dont know lol but it’s still eh.

Hopefully everything is fixed soon.
