How many from California (or any other state that requires it) have removed their front license plate and replaced it with a bumper strip? How many of you have received tickets or warnings as a result?

I've never had a front plate (hopefully never will, either - ickpoo!). I've been pulled over more times than I would care to admit, but never for the front plate (or lack thereof). FWIW they have never mentioned anything about not having it either when they pulled me over for the other stupid violations. Aside from shooting laser at it, it's just another excuse for them to pull you over if they can't find anything else. If they really want to pull you over, they will find a reason - whether you have a front plate or not. Afterall, quotas must be met! :thumbdwn:

A couple years back I did an informal survey on front plates by tallying the number of cars I saw with plates against those without (okay I'm a freak - so what! heh). My sample size was a few hundred cars. In my area, roughly 40% had a front plate at the time (it seems that the percentage is higher now for some reason). This is when I decided that I really didn't need to put the front plate on my car, as a great number of other people where I normally drove didn't have one either. Have a look around in your area or where you regularly drive, that's what's really important (as opposed to what the concensus is on this board). It might be wise to put one on if not having one would make you stick out too much and if you don't like being harassed.

Thanks for the advice. While driving between Sacramento and Modesto tonight I noticed about 15% or more of cars don't have front license plates. Most prevelent were Corvettes, Grand Ams, and SUVs.
