front bumper strip

How many from California (or any other state that requires it) have removed their front license plate and replaced it with a bumper strip? How many of you have received tickets or warnings as a result?

No front plate in MA for the past 3 years with no problems. I do replace the strip with the frame/lic. plate for my annual inspection.
