Front Splitter

Hi everyone. Got a sheet of plywood for free so I decided to make my own splitter.

I took my bumper off and placed it on the plywood then traced the outer edge. Then measured 3in from that spot to make a 3in lip all the way around. I didnt have a under tray so i measured 21in from the stock lip back to make the under tray.

I attached it using most of the stock bolt points for the undertray and a few screws on the underside. In a few days Im going to be wrapping it in carbon fiber. I know alumilite is lighter and I could have used a filler to make a carbon fiber sandwich but funds are close to nill. This is just Mark I.

This could be interesting..... I'll reserve judgement until I see it done. I would love to find a a cheap alternative to the Rieger GT lip....

I was gonna do the same thing eventually..But don't wrap the OSB. If anything do a CF sandwich with foam, use weights on the boards to apply pressure to everything. Glass is a good way to get it perfect flat surfaces.

kinda like the foam and fiberglass idea myself....but, yeah, interesting to see how this turns out.

But he can repair dings in the OSB with this!

This is more like a prototype. I havnt spent any money on material so if it doesnt turn out great I wont be too dissapointed. When I get funds I'll use this one as a template for a carbon fiber and foam splitter.

I didnt have enough fiber glass so we used fiber glass on the 3in lip then will be using sealer on the rest then priming and painting.

I have felt a difference though. Not sure from actual downforce or the fact that I havnt had a under tray. Either way the front end feels alot more planted to the road. Before, past 60mph the steering would feel very light and vague but now it feels nice and tight.

Got another tease photo for you. We wrapped the actual lip in fiberglass then sealed the wood fallowed by several coats of primer and 5 coats of flat black. Well have better pictures at sun up.

I would like it but it seems like there are a couple parts that could have been sanded down a little further to keep with the existing line of the lip.

Trav man, totally agree with you. Prob would have been straight and square if my lip and bumper were actually in their original shapes.

All my material was free and wanted to see if it would improve my shaking and light steering at highway speeds before I went full force on a CF one.
