Does this little guage under the rpm meter, which swings back and forth, serve a useful purpose? Is it on all bmw's?

that meter tells you the mpg that you are running at and i think it actually works because i changed my shifting point according to the mpg gauge and i saved a few bucks.

I hate that meter..makes me nervous seeing my gas go bye bye...
Actually, I think you're supposed to keep it pinned all the way over.. that tells you that you're getting the most FPG (fun per gallon)
