after replacing both the fuel pump and the sending unit, my tank is still reading on empty, do i have to do a reset when the job was completed?

Did you replace the fuel pump w/ built in sender? If so it's probably the drivers side fuel level sender.

Was the level arm properly snapped into the bracket on the fuel pump?

In this pic you can see the arm (metal piece) is held/attached to a white bracket on the pump itself. Some times it pops out and doesn't read the level properly

What brand of fuel pump did you install? This is a critical part so I recommend you install a Siemens/VDO pump only.

DOES THE brand matters? and I thought just putting it back in (the new one) the way it came was all that is needed

Technically the pump maker is Siemens/VDO. Go to bmaparts to get the best price on a Siemens/VDO pump. You'll need to replace the pump gasket, too.
