Another Top Five Result For #95 BMW 330i Sends Turner And Salama To P1
TROIS-RIVIERES, QUEBEC, CANADA - 08/07/2006 - Will Turner and Don Salama took the overall lead in the Street Tuner championship with a fifth-place finish in Saturday's race at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada. Driving the #95 H&R Springs BMW 330i, they scored their seventh top five finish of the year.
The Turner Motorsport BMW M3 drivers in the Grand Sport class finished in the points but not where they wanted to be in Sunday's race. Anders Hainer and Joey Hand finished in fifth-place in the H&R Springs/Under Armour BMW M3, while Bill Auberlen and Chris Gleason finished in 22nd place after mechanical trouble forced an early-retirement.
In the Street Tuner (ST) category, Will Turner and Don Salama gained control of the championship with just two races remaining in the season thanks to a fifth-place finish on Saturday. The fifth-place netted them crucial points and they leapt from second place into first, with a four-point lead and two races remaining on the schedule. Turner and Salama have been runners-up in the championship for the past two seasons.

"I think this weekend proved that anything can happen and your strategy can change in no time at all. In the last two races we have gone from being down by over 30 points to leading the championship in the ST class. With two races left, everyone really has to be on top of their game and not let anything slide. The TMS crew has just been awesome, and I can't forget my co-driver Don - they have all done an outstanding job this year."
In the Grand Sport class, the tables were turned on the Turner Motorsport team this weekend. Anders Hainer finished fifth out of 31 cars with substitute co-driver Joey Hand. Their top-five finish was the sixth of the year for Hainer who was in second place overall going into the weekend. However with only four points separating the top seven drivers, there was very little room for error. Hainer fell back one spot to third in the Championship.
Bad luck fell upon the #96 H&R Springs/StopTech Brakes/Gleason Financial BMW M3 with Bill Auberlen and Chris Gleason behind the wheel. After 70 laps Auberlen was forced to retire the car with an electrical problem. The #96 M3 was scored in 22nd place and still within the points but the result will drop them from the championship lead they held going into the weekend.

"We were doing well during the race, running third and fourth after our final pit stops, and looking forward to another top-five result. Having to retire the car in a race so late in the season is a blow to our championship hopes but Chris Gleason and I will persevere and we'll be back fighting for wins at the next race in Utah. We're not out of this yet and we're going to continue fighting like it was the second race in the season, not the second-to-last."
The next race on the schedule is in three weeks at the new Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. The green flag for the season's penultimate event waves on September 1.
