If you have tightened the pin fully home and have applied the brakes,the gap won't be there.

I don't know what the gap looks like when you first do a fresh brake job, but it is a slide pin. The whole purpose of the pin is so that caliper can slide along that pin when compressing the rotor and as the pads and rotor wear, the gap also changes every so slightly. Now, as I said, I never paid attention to the gap at a fresh brake job -- it could also depend on your rotor thickness and the pads you used.

Haven't applied the brakes yet to push the piston out

That's probably what is showing. The first couple of times that you push the brake pedal down, it will seem to want to go to the floor. Then, the pedal becomes good, as fluid pushes the pistons out to where they should be. If you then check that pin clearance again, it will probably be tighter.
