I was considering painting my garage floor with an epoxy paint.

Anyone have any experience with this? I'm kind of concerned about hot tires picking up the paint. I noticed that Behr says their product 'resists' paint pick up from hot tires.

Then again Pontiac says they build excitement.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Griot's naturally says their product is best and I've heard that Benjamin Moore makes a great product. My folks did their floor and wish they hadn't...say it becomes too slippery when wet. Could put sand in to counter that problem, I suppose. I never did mine, so I don't worry about what hits the floor. Just blow out the dirt with a leaf blower and high pressure wash when needed. I think if I ever did mine, I might look into linoleum.

Sure they do - a Trans Am in the rain with traction control off - that EXCITING!!!!

I'd be interested in this, too. I have done absolutely no research on this so I really can't help (sorry) but I'm looking into the same thing...

Maybe we could put our heads together over a beer sometime. I live in Rocky Hill.

Any epoxy based paint will work well. The problem is paint prep. It is tough on an old floor (stained)

Many people say the floor needs to be prepped with an acid etch then the paint applied.

Unless you like to repaint yearly.
Painting yearly is not in the plan! I really don't like painting at all.

I had planned on doing extensive cleaning and etching before the primer.

Thanks!

You should be fine then. I'd do it but my house was built in '76 and the garage has lots of dirt, rust, and oil. I don't think I can clean it enough to paint.. :(

At my last house i had an old barn that I converted into a car/boat storage facility for the toys.

I poured 3 slabs of concrete and let it dry for 30 days. They I washed and cleaned it really well. I think the stuff I used was Behr? Not sure- but I bought it at home depot in the kit- not by the individual gallon. It came with prep stuff, the epoxy (grey but I think it also comes in tan) and the stuff you throw on it after the epoxy is laid down to add "grip".

The stuff was completely awesome!!!!!! Hard as nails- you could pound on it with a hammer and it would not chip. Spills clean up easy since they have no chance to penetrate. I would definitely go for it again. I had a bit left over and dipped some handles of pliers in it and the stuff is still on the pliers to this day.

It was easy as paint to apply and it looked new after 5 years. It was never slippery.

Just make sure you get the right stuff. Like I said, I think it was Behr but may not have been. I did buy some white Behr to do my pool concrete and the stuff completely sucked big time. Peeled off in 12 months.

So get the one that's in the kit at home depot which is made for garage floors and you can't go wrong.

Just don't wax it! When I was in the service the "geniuses" (officers) wanted the hanger floor waxed for inspection. The first time a wet plane was pulled in there were people slipping and sliding all over the place. Very Dangerous

I used VALSPAR 2 part epoxy coat on my floor. It's a gray color. It is a little slippery when wet.

I used 2 gallons for my two car garage. Prep is a little time consuming, but I'm very happy with it. Oil stains and everything wipe right up.

I just recently used a Rustoleum product on my floor. So far, it looks and works great! It's a package deal and it's not as involved as the Behr stuff. They give you these little sprinkles to mix in, but I didn't use them. It sealed my floor nicely. Got it at Home Depot.

I had my garage floor and all three walls TILED. :D It looks great. I sweep it out twice a week (note: 1.5 car garage), and hose it out on weekends.

At the moment, I have a gravel drive way, so being able to wash my car INSIDE is great. The garage is also heated, so winter time washing is a sinch.

Do you have a sewer in the garage? Where does the water go in winter?
Yes, with a 6" circular opening. When the garage floor was re-poured, I had them grade it so that everything runs out towards the garage door. The sewer cover is there in the middle.

The garage floor is heated and I have a rather large radiator mounted on one wall (house is heated by re-circulating water that is heated with oil  ). I need a new garage door - next fall - but last winter, even with temperatures at -20°C, the garage was never colder than +17°C (approx. 66°F).
