Anyone ever have that happen? Is it common? It was only black for a second and then turned back on as if I just started the car.

By gauges do you mean the tach/speedo in front of you or the center iDrive screen? I had the well known left shift/vibration of the tach and speedo and it had to be solved by replacing the display. Somewhat thereafter I had my center screen go blank and they were able to reset it with programming but said if it happens again they will replace it. A couple of posts on it:https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1374733 and https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1377001 --Bob

Thanks, Bob, I do mean the whole gauge cluster shut off, everything in there turned off like someone unplugged it. I'm concerned because I'm running out of warranty! Still, I'll keep an eye on it, if it happens again, I'll bring it in. The CPO kicks in after this, but apparently there is a deductible, so I won't be totally left in the dark.

Even though it may be hard for the dealer to replicate your blank screen, I would definitely recommend taking it to the dealer and ask them to check it out and see if they can duplicate it or if any codes have been set. Even if they don't find anything you will have registered the condition while under warranty. That may help you if it happens again when you have gone out of warranty. I would talk with your service advisor about that. As you may have seen in my other posts, the left shift and vibration of the tach/speedo display is a known issue with a service bulletin related to it. "Going blank" doesn't seem to be is part of that; here is a link to that SB anyway: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10145344-9999.pdf. Good luck--Bob

Thanks, Bob! I'll definitely do that. It's annoying, I just had it in for the infotainment going blank and saying no signal. They found a loose plug. I'd hate to take it back immediately with a different electronic gremlin to chase down. I'm not driving much during this lockdown, I'll give it a couple weeks and see if it reoccurs. If not, I'll take it in anyway. Maybe I could just call and ask if the two issues could be related. I doubt it, but still, as you say, that means the note is made.
