I turned right without coming to a complete stop at a red light a few weeks ago. I deserved the ticket, but who really stops when making a right at a red light at 3am (no cars in sight in all directions)? I guess the officer hadn't made his quota for the night.

Cost: $349 with traffic school (bad) + 9 hours lost wages (worse).

chris,

Man, it hurts to see you wasting all this money on tickets :tsk:

Though I do know now what I *have* to get your for your birthday (it's my duty to help out friends in need)... though if you keep it up, it might have to be sent early.

Hint: it is worth its weight in gold but it can't help you out if you make a turn on red in Manhattan ;) (your own stupidity helped you out there -- haha Geoff loves telling people that story).

Can you guess? hehe.

Yeah, nearly $350.

I have been harassed quite a bit by the PD in the area lately. Between Jan. and early March, I was pulled over literally 9 times and followed all the way home many times more.

Unforturnately, there is a Japanese restaraunt that serves alcohol in the same retail center where I have my store/office. I work late (I typically leave between 11pm and 1am), so when I leave the lot they are suspicious of drunk driving. The ironic thing is that I don't drink and never have. Yet I get pulled over regularly for suspected drunk driving (they always have a lame excuse for pulling me over, such as, "You signaled for 200 feet instead of 150"). This time he followed me about 5 blocks before pulling me over; he was probably waiting for me to do something worse. You would think they would know me by now, I certainly recognize some of them!

Out of all the times I have been pulled over this year, this was the first time they have written me a ticket. I was quite surprised when he handed it to me, and my reaction probably surprised the hell out of him. It would have been much worse if I had known it was going to be $350 + a day of traffic school, believe me.

Traffic cams are ridiculous. It isn't bad enough that we have to deal with rush hour traffic, road rage and the guy who won't move out of the passing lane. They just installed about 10 miles worth of traffic cams going in on the 33 in downtown buffalo. They say that the cameras are just for traffic conditions, accidents, etc. and that they aren't used for speeding infractions, but I'm sure they will soon enough. Anything to bring in some extra cash for the local city government. :thumbdwn:

Sonet, I can't believe that you could get a ticket for $350 for failing to make a complete stop on red. That is total cr*p. After 1 am all red lights should change to blinking yellow. I'm all for cops pulling over suspected drunks, but not for pulling people over just b/c they're bored.

I have been stuck at some intersections where there are no magnetic strips for 4-5 minutes late at night, waiting for the light to turn green so I could go straight. Many times I will just make a right and then a u-turn to get thru this.

Maybe I should've posted this to the flame board. . .:D

What disgusts me most is the fact that speed limit in Hawaii is so low, our max is what, 55?? The speed limit being so low, and now they put those cams out there, good god, they know very well they can make a lot of money with this stupid program. Everyone is already driving like snails, grrrrrrr..... driving is no fun in hawaii...

Hey vexed, u think I should just pay it or go to court? Shall I wait until they totally abort the program?:lmao: :lmao: Cant even see me in the picture......

Oh and you guys, thanks, the 175,257,350,95 does make me feel better.... hehehhee...:D

Bimmee,

A friend of mine, when I lived in California, took it to court and won because there was no cop to show up as the witness -- so it got thrown out (or something similar -- I know it had to do with the fact that there wasn't an actual cop involved to prove that she was actually speeding or even the person driving).

I'd take it to court just to see.

Another friend does this:

In California they give you dealer-logoed plastic temporary tags and tape a registration (folded up with an expiration date that can't be seen except when looking at it from next to the car) to the windshield.

Even though he got his regular plates, he left on his dealer logo tag and the paper in the windshield so that he can't get caught going through those things. He got his car early 2000 and he still drives with it like this and no one has ever stopped him!!

A clever idea if Hawaii does something similar (dig those temp tags out of the garbage!)

Though I'm sure that if he does get caught, he'd have a lot of explaining to do :)

Hey Tammie,

Honestly I used to be pretty popular among cops.... when it comes to getting busted speeding. I used to go to court everytime because like you said, if the cop doesnt show up, DISMISS!!.

But this traffic cam stuff is pretty new here, this is my first time getting one. I dont know how easy it is to get the case dismissed, is it worth it to take the day off.... and be harassed.....:dunno: :tsk:

Oh, I am not sure if we have the plastic tag thing here, do you have a pic of it??
