Ok, stopped by the dealership this morning, and went to the parts dept. to price out the titanium headlight trim, and chrome exhaust tips.

Headlight trim: "Sorry, you have to buy the entire headlight unit to get the trim. You cannot just buy the Titanium trim. You cost would be $291.00 per unit"

Well, forget that...How 'bout the exhaust tips?

"Well, for your car, they are only available in black"

WTF?? I just said thanks and walked out. It's always been a waste of time dealing with the service department there. I might as well get a bentley manual and do all maintenance myself.

Anyways, they guy was FOS. Anyone know where I can get these parts for a 2002 325ci??

Thanks!

you'd probably be better off trying circle or pacific bmw. i'm not sure if they have the parts (they'd def have the chrome tips), but they at least will have a good price and not be uninformed.
Yup - Pacific had both parts in stock :thumb:

Thanks!!

Also, looks like Circle has these as well. Originally was told that they "wouldn't fit" - but turns out they were thinking of the 2002 sedan, which has the new "face lift". 2002 coupes are still the same as 2001. Surprised they didn't know that....

Alright, just got a call from Circle, and they said they did some research, and they are adamant that the Titanium trim from a 2001 coupe will NOT fit a 2002 coupe.

This is a little frustrating because the at least LOOK the same in terms of the headlight assembly.

Has anyone, you know of anyone who has gotten a 2001 trim piece to fit into the 2002??

thanks!

I quoted the part number from circle's website to my salesperson, who had it installed for me upon delivery.
Ok, then my next question for you: I may not have the right equipment to install them myself, and I asked the dealer if they would install them. They said "it may take 1 hr per side, at $83 per hour"

Any idea how long, or how much they charged you, or was this part of the negotiated purchase/

Thanks!

Hey Geomax,

Don't you think that some dealerships are just down right stupid? I had my own encounter at SM BMW two days ago. There are simply no sign of intelligent life at these dealerhips...

Wow, when BMWNA had my dealership install it in place of the black trim, I was told it took them appx. 10 minutes per side! (echoing the DIY instructions)

Yes, I completely agree!!

Now I double checked with my service rep, and this individual contacted parts. This is the parts dept answer:

4 DOOR UP TO 8/01 ALL 2 DOOR AND CONV.

...yet I was physically standing in the parts Dept 2 days ago, and was told it wouldn't fit!!! ARRrrgg!!

But at least I got something definitive in the end....hope this info helps anyone else who's thinking of getting the trim.

Seems like it's a painless "mod" - the link atyclb posted shows the A-Z, should take less than an hour total, and the part (both pieces) was $58.00. Hard to go wrong with that, and it'll look great!

geomax,
That parts guy was obviously not with it. I have a 2001 325i and the dealership that I bought it from installed free slip on “330” chromed exhaust tip(s). You can buy the exhaust tips, from another source, and easily put them on your self.

Hey geomax,

Which Boston area dealer did you go to?
BMW Peabody. My experience there has really been a mixed bag. My Sales Advisor was terrific, and really went out of his way to look into things, answer questions, etc. Things start to get weird as you getting closer to service however. My Service Rep is pretty good, but as for Parts and the mechanics...well, you all know the story. I guess when the warranty runs out, I'm going to bring it to the shop that has the local BMWCCA Technical Advisor. I've spoken with him a few times, and he seems to always know exactly what I'm talking about.

Wingboot: yeah, sounds like an easy install. I like those :thumb:

When I originally looked around for cars, I went to BMW Peabody first. The 325i test drive I took there was what convinced me to buy a BMW.

The thing is, the sales advisor there just didn't take me seriously. He never even called me back when I asked him for some more info.

Oh well, I ended up getting my car from Wagner BMW (all the way out in Springfield) for even less money. :)
