HELP! 2012 528I Engine Blown

Has anyone had this awful experience? I was driving along as usual when out of the blue I got a "Drivetrain Malfunction" error. Then something about low oil pressure and operation of the vehicle is not possible. The car went into limp mode. I had to have it towed to the nearest BMW repair shop. After draining the oil the guys found pieces of the engine in the oil and said they wouldn't spend time fixing it. The engine was blown and needed to be rebuilt. It only has 66,000 miles on it. The last time it was at BMW was for the turbo fix that was covered under warranty a few months ago. I've had my car serviced regularly by BMW and have never had any problems until this. I did see someone else on some other forum with the same problem. I've called the dealer but have not heard back. I'm going to have it towed and dropped off at the dealer to see if they'll help me out with this. Any other suggestions? Experiences?

This is the N20 engine with timing chain issues. Happens quite often. BMW extended the warranty on it up to 7 years / 70k miles.

Look up your VIN here.

If you see this timing chain entry, your engine qualifies for that extended warranty.

I Own a 2016 428i Xdrive with 10k on it and live in Canada when I try to use that it says I don't qualify makes no sense since I have the N20 engine too, is there info I'm missing out on I have heard others claim that engine chain warranty too please I would appreciate any info!

This issue was fixed for later model years. 2012 - 2013 are the most problematic years. I believe by 2015 models every issue with this engine was fixed.

Didn't know there is a 528i variant of the GT in the US.

Don't think there is...probably a 5-series sedan. Europe gets a lot more engines that were never fitted to the GT for delivery to the USA, but I suppose it could be a diplomatic vehicle that was imported. Can't sell it here, though.
