Help buying a 1981 633csi

5174 5
I'm quite new to this forum. I am looking at a 1981 633csi, 5spd manual that I found on CL. I live near the east coast of NH, this car will be my first car and my daily driver. I asked the guy a few questions. He is asking $6500 for it. The car has about 110k miles. Gauge cluster works, except defrost switch and odometer randomly sticks at .9 intervals. The car has been in his family since 86. The fuel filter, along with O2 sensor were recently replaced. Small rust around rear wheel wells and some starting around the tail lights. Mechanically the car is very good. Interior looks like it is in good shape. Is the price right for this car? Or is this car too much to be a daily driver? Here's the ad: http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/3204701346.html
Thank you!

Keep looking for a 635csi. At that asking price, you can find a nice Euro model 635csi. Might not be perfect, but it is far more desirable than a 633csi US Model. The 5-speed is a plus though. Keep looking, it is a great time to find that special E24.
I wish you were in Southern California, I have an 1987 635CSI 5speed that is in great shape, and I'm asking for $5500. I have the car listed here under Private classified. Also since it is SOCAL car it is completely rust free. If interested let me know and I can work with you on the price since you are in the east coast.
Hi Roku35, I appreciate your thoughts on 635 v 633. I also posted on this forum asking for comments on buying a 633 or 635. A 635 sounded better but wasn't really sure if it was that preferable.

Rust is the enemy

Generally you should steer clear of rust, regardless of the other attributes. There are plenty of quality, rust free cars available for your price range.
Cool is your friend

I have a 1985 635. Love it, but was discouraged from buying a 633 from this forum. But since I bought mine, I've noticed that the coolest interior and exterior color combos were available on the 633. If the interior you've found has an unusual color like that caramel (not the beige: darker) or the dark blue, or if you can find an exterior that has some of the soft pastel colors, I think those will be valuable later because you just don't see them that much.
