Hmm..

No I don't think it's the fog light. We got those hooked up.

All the lights are hooked up properly.

Just that last electrical connection.
Have any idea where it would plug into?
Not a light
(where exactly does this connection go to?)

Follow your air box tube and see if your mass air flow sensor is plugged in

Being on the left side leads me to belief it is the connector to the air quality sensor attached to the fan shoud or radiator left side hose (temperature sensor?).

I vote for the temp sensor. Did a cooling system overhaul on our E46 recently and that looks like the one, although I would call it the right side (from the position of sitting inside the car rather than facing the front bumper).

So..

So that would be the passenger side cooling connection?

Would you happen to have a picture of this connector on your e46 that you could show me?

I'm really tired of having this loose connector.

Thanks for all your help so far

I'll have to withdraw my vote for coolant temp sensor. This link shows that that connector has the spring-loaded bail or clip on it, which does not appear in OP's photo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UwwqZwEFOc

Give us a wider angle picture with you holding the plug like in the first picture...that way we can see what wireing harness you have in your hand and other e46ers can tell you exactly what it is

That is the way to do it. We may be able to help you if we see more of the wiring. Although I think its counterpart should not be to far from the reach of the connector.

There are two of those, one for the pump and one for the level sensor.

How about the exhaust cam position sensor?
