I have a 2004 E60 530i with just about 95K miles on the odometer. Last week I received a warning indicating the Alternator Malfunction, which was on for just few seconds and it disappeared. I haven't seen the light sense. Then today we here in Maryland had some heavy winds with rain on the way into work - no problems, but when I started driving home the car went berserk with many errors:

Transmission Malfunction
Washer Fluid Low - knew that one already
Seatbelt Control Malfunction
Cruise Control Malfunction
Tire Pressure Sensor Malfunction

Now I'm sort of thinking there's a fuse on the bus that controls all these, haven't looked yet. I wanted to post this thread first before I started looking. Anyway does anyone have a clue as to what's going on? I thought at first I'd need a new Alternator, but now after receiving all these other errors I'm not so sure. Thoughts, Ideas, suggestions are warmly welcomed.

Respectfully,
Jay

Check your trunk for excessive water pooling under your spare... you may have some wet electronics.

Under the spare is dry, checked fuses, checked belts, and even went up to autozone for a full diagnostic of the battery and alternator and that came back at 14.64 max and 14.48 volts. May not be the alt. Crap...

You may have to go back to Autozone to scan for OBDII fault codes so you can isolate your issue.

Anyone have instructions on how to remove the alternator? Might need some TQ settings and any helpful information...

I'd be willing to bet it's your battery. Lots of random errors occur when the battery is dying. If your battery is original to your '04, that is most certainly the problem.

Same thing... different place (spontaneous multiple faults).

I have an 04 530i with similar problems... same thing... multiple faults... I can turn it off and restart and all the issues are cleared...While it usually happens in the morning on a cold day, it has also happened 20minutes into my drive to work. I haven't taken mine in yet... until I can get a more consistent failure mode...(steps to reproduce). You are the 4th one with this similar problem.... I'd be curious what your diagnostics reveal if you take it in. I've heard things like Thermostat, or battery current sensors... etc. (i've replaced my battery too).

Just wanted to post an update. I replaced the alternator last week and this fixed all my problems. I did the work myself and I have to say this was very easy repair. In all a total of 4 bolt, 2 to the airbox, and 2 on the alternator was a piece of cake. All errors gone and the car is back on the street again.

I had similar problems-
I went to a BMW specialist (not a dealer), and changed my battery & alternator : fixed all those little problems. He also mentioned that my Washer Fluid is always Low because it had a little problem on the tip of the fluid tank-he fixed that too. YOU gotta take your car to someone who you could trust- or else, they could rip you off.
2004 e60 100k

spent $520. So satisfied. I bet the dealer was going to charge me well over $1000-

hooray!

body shop is in TUSTIN, orange county-CA. message me if you wanna check out the body shop-
