Help! My dealer is clueless.

1426 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Sean
When the outside temp is fairly warm (70+) and the car has warmed up my steering is making a creaking/popping noise when the steering wheel is turned to the left. Turn it right a little and then back to the left and it does it somemore. The more you do it the worse it gets. Has anyone experienced this? My dealer seems to think it's the retro streering rack going bad. I on the other am not so certain.

As far as I know this is the control arm bushing issue...

check http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4672 for some more info
That's exactly what I think, but my car had the updated control arm brackets with bushings(66mm) installed at 5,9XX miles (currently 8,2XX) so who knows? :dunno:
150 people have looked at this and

no one can help? I find that very hard to believe. :bawling:

is there only one dealer in TN...? take it somewhere else...it could be a million things
4 dealers in the state. All spread out. The closest one from here is 120 miles.
come and get is fixed over here! :bigpimp:
Two things I can think of:

1. Left tie rod end is going bad.

2. Outer ball joint on left control arm.

But, it is very possible your dealer is right about this one-I would imagine the rack could be a possibility.

While the steering wheel is being turned to the left the noise is coming from the right side.
