I have a 2011 X5 35i, I have realized my car was making a high pitch sound when accelerating for a while already, but today I just got back from a trip to big bear lake, and found out that it seems to be louder then before.

Does anyone know what could be the cause? I know I am not giving enough info here but I really can't describe the sound, its like an old fans whining sound? The sound only appear when the car is in "D" and accelerating, when I put the car in "P" it wont make that sound.

Could be a fan belt idler pulley.
