I'm a newbie on here and with the marque, so any help would be much appreciated!
I'm looking at buying a 54 plate 3.0 Z4 with 90K miles
The seller is replacing the roof motor ( presume with a 2nd hand one)..
But before I go to see it / buy it, could you tell me the common problems ( timing chain issues etc0 and what I should be checking before I drive away please?

Thanks, I would normally check the oil on any car...but I see that it is somewhat more difficult on the Z4???..and what do I look for- are they prone to burning a lot of oil,...water / emulsion etc??

I would have an experienced mechanic do a pre purchase inspection if you don't feel competent to evaluate the car. What year is a 54 plate, means nothing to me.

Having just replaced the pump in my Z4 I can say that it's very difficult to locate a used unit in working condition, and I certainly would hesitate in buying a car with a used one. My new pump is now mounted on the bulkhead of the trunk where it will not get wet unless the car is submerged.

I would not want a used top motor esp considering the amount of work it takes to replace. Make sure they are putting a new one in. Other than that the wiper motor is also a common failure item.
