I am looking to buy my 1st BMW, I am currently looking at a 2004 530I BMW Sedan, It has 150kms ( 94,000 miles) It looks in nice shape no accidents the seller is asking $20,000 ($19,000 US) What is a fair price.

One other question What would you buy if the price was the same. a 2004 530I auto with 94,000 miles or a 2006 330I auto with 68,000 miles. thanks

You`re addressing the wrong forum....for the 5-series car, you want the E60 Forum, and for 2006 & newer 330i, you want the E90 Forum....
Happy hunting....

I'd stay away from the 530i. This here is six-banger country.

My bad. :eeps: I thought he was referring to the old 530 (Alusil-Nikasil issues).
Nothing wrong with the big V8, just make sure you know what you're looking for... mine is running strong *knock on wood* :)

Tricky question....could be either "yes" OR "no", depending on the year of the 530i....on the E34 series, there *was* a 530i V8 for a few years....current 5-series 530is are all inline 6s, though....

That car has toooooooo mnay miles. I picked up my 2005 BMW 530i for $20,000 out the door with only 42,00mls on it, with every option besides sport pack.

I just bought a 04 530i thursday for $19K at a dealership. It varies. Check the carfax and see that it was maintained. That was the selling point for me, it was serviced at the dealership for all scheduled jobs. I would take it to a mechanic for sure.

I'll sell you my 04 530i for 20K CAN and with 86K on the meter. Cold weather package included, clean title (no accidents) and still under CPO -- I'm ready to move up to an M5.

I bought my 1st BMW last week - a 2004 530i with 64K miles-Premium/ColdWeather pkgs but not sport. - $15,750 US via Craigslist

I think if you look for a while you will find better prices in this economy.

Did you buy it from a bmw dealership guys or a used car lot, also 1 owner? Any accidents? consistent maintenance records on the car fax or from the dealership? If so on an 04 530 your looking between 17900-20k if you are looking for the same criteria i'm looking at.

Now the question is a 2004 530i or a 2005 525i for the same price.... Remember 2005 is the last year for certified used up 100k mile warranty and the vehicles im looking at have no more than 65k miles

You'll be paying plenty for the "certified". Guys on this forum probably maintain their cars better than that and it won't show up on Carfax. There's more than one way to buy used, and going through a dealer will always cost the most. In my city/state you can also add 10% sales tax to all dealer sales. Private sales aren't subject to that. I can buy an awful lot of parts for $1600.
