yet every time I check it , it is fine
was wondering (after reading some posts here)
I had the alternator replaced by a local shop
maybe if they did not follow the bleed procedure here?

(closest BMW dealer is 100 miles away)
and hard to trust locals here for anything

will try the bleed screw myself
btw
everyone talks about the bleed crew - but where is it??

once again - I removed the radiator cap
engine stone cold
lots of 'hissing'
does this mean system has full pressure??
also - for the fist time - heard some bubbles
(about 3 seconds worth) as I removed the cap
the expansion tank looked empty
but after only about 4 ounces???
the red stick started to rise
do I understand correctly - that with a cold engine - the stick should barely float???

start the car and turn the heat up full blast. take a flat head screw driver and open the bleed screw ( on top of radiator on left hand side). open the exp. tank cap and pour coolant into the tank until (tricky part) you see coolant start to trickle back into the exp tank through the return line inside. the coolant flowing out ifthe bleed screw should start to bubble less also. Works best with someone in the car holding car to 1500rpm. has taken me up to four tries to get all the air out of the system. you'll prly spill some on the ground, so I'd do it outside instead of in your garage

getting close
trick was heater and engine on - that emptied the coolant overflow tank
then ran out of coolant (only had 1/2 gal on hand)
back from store - waiting for engine to cool

Please let me know how you get on, but My car has got the same warning everytime I turn the engine off the check coolant level warning message is displayed, I have checked the coolant when the engine is hot and cold and they are at the level they should be. What could be wring with mine?

check the engine when cold
then start engine
with heater temps on highest setting
this sucks coolant into heater core
(ie lowers volume in expansion tank)
then added more coolant - then problem (mine)
went away (for a while)
till I discovered blown head gasket
(which I fixed for $25 - not $6000)

My message came on ,( low fluid)car running hot. took off cooling cover level high. then started car
and coolant came rushing out about a 1/2 gal and steam from relief plug ,then shut off car waited 2 mins added some water started and in 1min boil over and steam again . I can hear bubbling in the hoses too . maybe a stuck thermostat? engine block hot after short
drive 10 miles temp on gauge normal also WTF

Wife drove it home to me then all this with the BMTROUBLEU overheating.
I let the car cool off then filled with water and started up with heater on 90 degrees
and fan on got engine 2 normal temp everything ok i guess . test drove 1/2 mile
back in garage shut off ( then i heard air escaping from radiator cap must be the leak
replacing tomorrow and with some new coolant i lost tonight :dunno:

NOTE : car always runs hot .radiator hoses bulge out when car is shut off after driving
like thier is always excessive pressure in system for years
New radiator, thermostat, overflow bucket

So your wife was driving the car while it was overheating, and she drove it all the way home? That could be a problem depending on how long the car was driven while overheating.

And are you saying that you've already replaced the radiator, thermostat, and expansion tank? If you already replaced these parts and the car is still overheating, then I'd imagine that your water pump is bad, you have air in the system, or you blew the head gasket.
