I kept the climate control in the last 3 or 4 cars that I have owned at 69 degrees. I keep the temperature at 66 or 67 degrees in my 330Ci to get the same comfort level as in my other cars. Maybe the thermostats in the E46 are not calibrated correctely?

Bimmer A/C is Cold-Cold Cold

The A/C in my 330ci is very cold when set on 74. I leave it there and adjust center wheel for tempering inlet air. To-day it was 72 F and raining, got almost too cold. Over 88 F I tap recirc. button twice which gives 100% recirc. air. The heat is from sun infiltration through the glass of side windows and windshield. I would rather roast in my Bimmer than be comfortable in whatever else is out there. GM does have a windshield that seems to cut out some of the heat. For us folks in a hot climatic condition, we need help. The '02 330ci A/C is as good as any car I have ever owned. It's the sun what makes us hot. :thumb:

Interesting that you talk about the inlet air option on the steering wheel. I received a 02 X5 for a loaner, and I noticed this button on the steering wheel as well. I guess it's a standard feature for all BMW's for 02? :dunno:

No -- its not on the steering wheel -- he's referring to the "wheel" dial between the 2 center vents that you can use to adjust how much the relative warmth/outside air...

ic... the x5 has the four spoke wheel, and I don't recall what button was there previously, but this is the first time I've seen the recirculating air button on them. I didn't think it would be on the sport steering wheels though:eeps:

A/C Dials and Stuff

I am sorry to have created a bit of confusion with my post referring to a wheel. The owners manual names it a dial. It is located center of dash in between the 2 adjustable air vents. Full cold air when A/C is on is when you dial 3 Blue Dots. As you adjust this dial it willl go from 3 blues to 2 blues to 1 blue a white dash and than will start on with red dots, 1, 2 qnd 3 which is for heat. Being in the south I have never used the reds in my 528 or the 330. At the bottom of my Nav unit there are a number of push buttons. 3 on left allow you to customize airflow where ever you want it This of course cuts off automatic air flow etc. In the center bottom of same panel, there are four sets of push buttons. Starting on Left side, 1st says Auto Air, 2nd left says temp and has red and green arrows signifying heat or cold. 3rd one has small and large boat type propellers, this allows you to manually select air flow higher or lower, 4th one push once will allow outside air when conditions permit or will shut off outside air if you run into a stinky diesel burner. Push this same button a second time and the outside air is cancelled ie: recirculated air. You guys fortunate enough to own a digital camera can take pictures of this stuf I mention so those who I have unintentionally confused can understand. This is in the owners manual which can be purchased if you don't have one. I have given up on heat infiltration through the glass and am getting my windows tinted next week. Thanks for your patience:thumb:

What I've always done on hot days (started doing this with my old Accord) was open the windows to get the worst out (really love that BMW feature with the door lock -> hold key, all windows open). Turn the Recirc air on, set A/C for "Winnipeg Wind Chill in January" (colder than any day the Leafs will win the Stanley Cup), and in a few minutes I'm comfortable in my black 'ette. Mind you I force the automatic system to do my bidding, but if you don't mind messing with the buttons, it works pretty good IMO.
