Went to replace the passenger right bulb that is out on 35i with non-adaptive headlight. All the youtube videos are for adaptive. Mine does not have the wire retaining clip and I cannot figure out how to get the darn thing out.

It does not pull out. I twisted it to clockwise and counterclockwise, not really hard but it does not feel like it is going to budge.

I checked www.newtis.info and searched Youtube and the forums but all the pictures are of an adaptive bulb.

I know this has to be easy. I am just missing something.:dunno:

Can you reach behind it and feel the black 2 piece retainer ring?
If so it would need to spin 1/8 turn counter clockwise.

Have you done this? I assume it is something like that. So there is a retainer ring just on the other side of the silver box? Do you spin 1 piece or 2 pieces?

I have searched www.newtis.info for every model year for X5 and non of the pictures or drawings are the same as what I am looking at. The pictures either show slips holding in the bulb or an older type of light that you twist the bulb counter clockwise.

The adaptive headlights DO have a wire retainer. The non adaptive headlights like mine do NOT have a wire retainer and I do not see an obvious way to remove. Tried pulling hard, tried unscrewing, etc... I am missing something.

Should be similar.
I looked on Real OEM for a 2007 pre lci x5 E70 3.0si and it shows the D1S bulb retainer clip.....and if so turning is the way.
The only way out is a counter clockwise 1/8 turn.

I replaced mine last year. It was like the DIY above, plus I took the headlight off the car. Don't forget no touchy touchy on the bulb.
Use latex gloves and use a alcohol prep wipe to clean the glass, not the matte ground rod.

If you have #8 in the diagram below...it twists on/off. You need to "press-in" the retaining bracket (see arrow in pic below)...then twist the "igniter" in a counter-clockwise motion to release it. Click link below for instructions from TIS website on how to remove ignition unit to remove xenon bulb (this is the non adaptive xenon instructions from the TIS):

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/...air-manuals/63-lights/63-12-headlight/OoGYZNk

Press in retaining bracket (1) for releasing retaining lug (2) in direction of arrow.
Disconnect plug (3) in downward direction from ignition unit for xenon headlight (4).
Turn ignition unit for xenon headlight (4) in direction of arrow and remove from headlight (5).
