I am close to the purchase of my first BMW. A 2001 740i. The car has 90K miles on it, but looks like in good shape. I would be using it for many hwy miles for work and wanted to know if these cars can go 250k or more if maintained? Just do not want a complete money pit. Thanks for your advise in advance. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated.

not sure about longevity

but bimmers, well maintained, do go for a long time
i expect that this 6.5 year old will still be in service at 200,000
am a very satisfied owner of 2001 740i with sports pkg.
however, we've only 65k on this auto. we use it for 300 - 500 mile trips and it is quite comfortable, thus alluring. Tho each trip to the petrol station is serious money.
There is no qu that once a year you are going to part with $1000 or more on the maint if not some addl for new battery or tires etc. But that is only once a year so if time is money, then i find it worthwhile.
