How often do you find yourself checking.......

2185 Views 13 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Ack
For all you with cars on order or had them order, how often did / do you find yourself checking the order tracking on the owners circle or calling BMW customer service to check the status code?

I am finding that I am doing this everyday (at least checking online) for my 9/13/02 production date. Maybe I am thinking that some workaholic german assembler is coming in on the weekends to finish my my car earlier and I will see the status change on the order tracking every hour.

Eventhough the owner's circle may not be real time accurate, it's still facinating seeing your car getting closer and closer to delivery.

Patience is tough these days, but it's well worth it.

Once the car was scheduled for production, I called daily until it was on a ship. The web site is not updated every day, so calling BMWNA was the more useful activity. If you're on the left coast, you even get an extra week to wait while the ship travels across the Carribean and through the Panama Canal.

The car is/was definitely worth waiting for

Cliff3, whenever I see your car on this forum, I'm in awe of it's beauty and it makes me crazier to have to wait for mine.

That is one great ride! Also you have a great name too! Not many of us Cliff's out there! Hello fellow Cliff brother.
I wish that I had the time to take several pictures at the location of the picture in my sig. I had recently passed a couple of HUGE 5th wheel RV's whom I had been stuck behind for 20 miles, and they were barreling down on me. I saw the bridge while approaching Newport Oregon and instantly thought: photo op. One quick snapshot, jump in the car and haul ass out of there in advance of the lumbering behemoths. :banghead:

There are a few Cliff's on this forum. In my case, the 3 is a handy, dual purpose suffix (Jr thinks I spent too much for my car, but then he drives a Subaru).

I was checking every 2-3 days until about a week before the expected delivery date at which point I was checking daily.

Ahhh, the beginings of OCD!!!!!

If I had a dollar for every time I checked out the owner's circle, and for each call to the 800 number, I'd probably have my next down payment covered:)

We all feel your pain....the wait is well worth it!
Hey........I just checked again! Same thing from about 1 hour ago!

:D
I was pretty good about it (only checked about once a week) until my car started production last week (now status 150). Now I call the number once a day.

I wonder how many people staff the phones there? I think I recognize one guy's voice from a couple calls. Every time I call though, they are very polite.
Chill out

Ordered in September, delivered in January.

Called the hotline once to make sure my idiot dealer placed the order correctly, and checked status online half a dozen times or so. Checking doesn't make BMW build it any faster, and annoys the automotive gods.

Ever since I moved out here to the "left coast" from the other coast, I have learned to accept getting screwed by those people back east! :eeps: What do you do? At least all the football games are pretty much over by 4 p.m. out here on Sundays!

Damn, that's the Yaquina Bay Bridge. Hey, I hope you took the time to stop at that ugly looking plant on the south side of the bridge before driving over it. If you didn't, you missed the home of Rogue Ales, one of the best brewpubs on the west coast, uh, make that the U.S./N.A. PCH from No. Cal. up to Astoria, OR is a hell of a drive for the 3er!

I think I hit Newport fairly early in the day, so no brewpub stops for me. I'll save that for future reference should I get up that way again though. 101 was actually kind of a spotty drive, thanks to drivers like this one:

Probably the best drive of the trip was on 47 from Clatskanie down to McMinnville. I only saw 2 vehicles on that road: an unloaded logging truck who was hauling some serious butt, and a local in a little Subaru who had no fear. There was no need to pass either driver.

{edit}

If I do the coast drive again, I'll head from North to South instead of the opposite. All the turnouts to view the magnificent scenery were on the wrong side of the road...

Absolutely. Take the 5 up to Salem or Portland and then cut over to 101 on the coast. Go during the week in early or late summer/early fall (Sept-Oct) and you won't have as much traffic. I know what you mean about the RV's and lumber trucks. They suck, and who made that stupid commercial showing an RV riding the ars of some small sports car on a mtn curve? Stupid.

I checked the site religously every day and called the 1800 number all of the time. After a while, you start recognizing the voices of the people on the other line. I'm sure they recognized my voice.

The wait is worth it and it isn't that bad until it gets on the ship and the delivery gets delayed. Then there's the wait at the port and so on. The last week is the toughest.

Good Luck!
